i often find that when playing i like to have a set of soundtracks; a set of songs or music genre's that match what i happen to be doing in game. for example, when trekking i find that a nice, long and almost epic soundtrack fits - something like 'godspeed! you black emporer' or perhaps some 'russian circles'. when i'm digging i prefer to have some classical music playing or something more ambient..something that fits the pace of my actions. when grinding there is nothing but thrash metal that will do.. 'slayer' being my preferred choice and maybe some 'pantera' and also 'aphex twin' - the break-neck speed of the songs fits perfectly the constant fighting.
anyways, as i'm sat here listening to 'fuck buttons' (if you don't know them, find the track 'olympians' and go on a wander) i was wondering what other people may be listening to or if they are listening to anything at all - i know that when my mrs is sat by my side watching some god awful drivel on the tv i have to wear headphones or mute *sigh*

Rammstein for named and boss hunt?

#3 Report | Quote[en]

Interesting topic:

For a while I just listened to rock and roll on a streaming internet radio station (Radio Paradise (no adverts, listener supported); http://www.radioparadise.com/ ) However, while enjoyable, I found that I was keeping it turned low so that I could hear mobs sneaking up on me, so I just turned it off.

My music in Atys is the lowing of the armas, the chirruping of the gubani, the roar of the kitins in the distance (I hope). When I'm in a battle, the sounds of the elemental cast going off beside me, the sweet music of the healing as I experience it, the occasional "thunk" that tells me that aggro has gotten past or around the tank (or that someone was using bomb and hit a tribeshomin) is sufficient.

That's me. I didn't grow up with a cord stuck in my ears (we didn't have them back then), so I never got used to having a soundtrack for my every activity.

Looking forward to seeing more answers.

Uhh the question "what I'm listening to" is hard to answer... and easy at the same time.

I listen to close to every kind of music - most of the time though it's pop, rock and soundtracks (and their mixtures)
I'm nearly always listening to music but turn it off when I start playing (any game, not just Ryzom)
The few times that I listen to music in game I just start my, kinda random, playlist at some point and do/modify my activity depending on the music. (or skip a song in between)

Just the other day I was running through the desert and coincidentally listened to Mellow Trax - Outa Space (closest version on YouTube) and thought by myself "Oh, this fits nice for running - which song is it?" and that's also the reason why I know the title ;-)

Often enough, the early warning of a howling ragus in the distance, saves my day. It's just a tad bit annoying when you're digging inbetween a group of Kipees that I temporarily turn down the volume a bit. Accidentally got almost killed by a ragus that way recently ;-)

Rammstein for named and boss hunt?

rammstein is a good choice for boss hunts! nice pace and energy and with a hint of comedy to keep the mood light.. i like a bit of primus for my hunts as usually they end up as some form a disjointed, chaotic mess - primus keep me from losing the will to live as i die over and over again ;P

i too struggled to listen to music and hear the game 'soundtrack' at the same time.. i just put the music on the stereo instead of the computer speakers.. works for me that way :) i definitely need to hear the mobs around me.. those howls give me the fear!

i'll have a listen to that, thanks :)
if i'm running from A to B and if A is a very long way away from B i like to put on some kind of long track or a song that keeps a nice pace - sort of like "driving music" but for running. that 'band' i mentioned called f*ck buttons are good for that - good long, progressive songs :)

i have found that kate bush seems to be the perfect accompaniment to digging.
as to why, i don't really know.. could be her voice that stops me from falling asleep.. could also be the images of those early videos running round my head that make it all the better.... either way, tis good :)

When I digg I listen to Pink Floyd, Vangelis, Mike Oldfield, Bach, Dire Straits, Electric Light Orchestra, Enya, Hevia,

When I trek: Lynyrd Skynyrd, Metallica, Marilyn Manson, Dire Straits, Nightwish, La Polla Records, Kaotiko, Kaos Etilico, Eskorbuto, Quaoar, Iron Maiden, Rammstein, Jimi Hendrix and Vomito.

To fight or train I preffer allways clasical music.

That was a little list of waht I listen or like though; I like to listen to any kind of music, but experimental, progressiv, ambiental, heavy metal, punk and classical are the best for me.

some excellent artists there, lerya!!
some names i don't know too.. Your digging playlist is a great one.. definitely with you on the long trippy song style. I will ignore the enya though :-P
classical is ace for fighting.. gives an almost arty quality to the fight. Like in a film where a fight scene may be slowed down or in slow motion - classical music works best there too. I can't think of an example off the top of my head right now.
there's no way i could list all my tastes.. i love a bit of every thing... except generic chart crap - that gives me hives!
