The avatar in the profile is a generic jpg thing that has no resemblance to anything in game. If you go to Edit the profile you see a text box that is just begging to have a url or img tag put into it. However a few experiments with a little avatar photo on Flikr revealed that it wasn't quite that simple or that I didn't understand it.

Has anyone managed to put in a user avatar there? If not, would a CSR or DEV please tell us how to do it. If it is not possible, could they tell us that, too?

Works just fine for me, both in-game and in a browser. You didn't get any error when you saved?

yes I get an error about trying to find the size and not finding anything with a php module.

What format do you use for the url reference?

Edit error message:
Warning: getimagesize([ url=http://...@N03/8391317334/][ img]http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8096/8391317334_b7de5f09f6_s.jp g[/img][/url]): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/app/web_hg/app/app_profile/classes/Infos.php on line 282

Edit: had to put in spaces in [ url and [ img to keep the Forum from interpreting it.

Tried again, using a png file instead of jpg and only putting the [ img tag in. Error message:

Warning: getimagesize([ img]http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8047/8391950040_99946438a0_s.jp g[/img]): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/app/web_hg/app/app_profile/classes/Infos.php on line 282

again putting in a space in [ img to allow the error message to be read as text. (The little b***rds -- they took my perfectly good png and turned it into a jpg....)

It seems as if you were entering the BBcode instead of the URL for the Avatar

if using the image url ONLY doesn't work try changing the size from 75x75 to either 64x64 or 128x128

Hooray --

I had tried both the <a href=... format and the BBcode since that is how we get the information into forum posts and the like. It didn't occur to me to use the html unmodified. :)

And yes, I had to go to 64x64 to get it to post. Problem solved -- Thanks.

I had a request to be a bit more explicit.

This is for putting a picture in your Profile.

First make a 64x64 pixel image of what you want in your profile. Put it up on flickr (or something similar).

Go to the picture in Flickr. Drill down all the way until you are looking only at the picture. Find the place where the link information is and copy it. It will look something like:

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/54740859@N03/8394278184/ ]
[img]http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8217/8394278184_b18e11 fef0_t.jpg[/img][/url]
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/54740859@N03/8394278184/ ]Bittty1_64[/url]
by [url=http://www.flickr.com/people/54740859@N03/]Bitttymac od[/url], on Flickr

Paste this somewhere where you can edit it and then select the text that is between the tags
 [img]  and [/img]
In this case that would be
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8217/8394278184_b18e11fef0_t.jpg

Now open your profile and click edit. You will see a line that says "Avatar" with a box next to it.

Paste the url into that box and you're set. ((Note, according to Leonora below, with thanks: https:// does not(!) work, only http:// . ))

You can also use the same url in the Options for the forum. It says you need to have a png, but it takes a jpg just fine.

I may add after these clear instructions that https links do NOT work. use only http ones.
