IDEAS FOR RYZOM

Hi.

Do you think being able to use escape to close open windows (Vendor or inventory for example) would be a good idea?

Just a thought :)

Yes, I do agree.

Oh, and could I add to that....escape to de-select a target?

mmm... ESC is already used to exit from a chat window. I'm not sure making a single key do more than one thing is necessarily a good idea. Since there is already a "deselect target" (actually "target nothing") action, I suspect you can assign it to ESC, but I don't know what that would do to the chat-window functionality.

Good point.

When you say, target nothing, do you mean click off the target? I have tried that and it does not deselect my current target.

The default key is F12 and it simply means that you are targetting nothing. It is labeled No Target in the Action keys section

i forgot about the chat exit, ur right, as for no target, f12 works good, bitty's right, more then one action for one key can't be done easy, perhaps re-mapping ur keys, but there needs to be a "key" for "exit window" perhaps not esc, but something would help.

One could create a macro and assign it to the key for multiple actions.

Excellent, thank you. I will look into making a macro. :)

Aeva, for the inventory, and other character related windows, the key that opens it up, also closes it down. So I imho, we don't need another key to close such windows. Press "k" to get a list of most of your key assignments.

Closing a vendor window is a different matter. <esc> already closes a couple of other special windows, such as material or action info windows. So, Bitty, in some cases we already have the double-meaning for keys. <esc> does close windows _and_ exits chats if the cursor is active in a chat.

The point is that it's okay to have different behaviour of some keys depending on the context. Another example is <enter>. The return/enter key acknowledges and sends a chat message, but if the chat message is empty, the effect is to exit the chat as well.

I'm undecided on having <esc> also close an open vendor window. It doesn't make much difference to me.
