IDEAS FOR RYZOM

I would like to suggest that all items able to be equipped be given a field to assign a key. This assignment could be done in the info window or by a new window accessible through the context menu. The benefits of this suggestion are easier changes in active task, weapon can readily be equipped after a disarm attack, armors may be changed easily without bringing the inventory window up.

In order to reduce the ability to use this suggestion for automation I would recommend an implementation where the first unequipped item found for a given key stroke is equipped and no further searching is preformed. Sets of armors would therefore not be able to be directly handled by the client and would require the user to make multiple key strokes as each equipping action completes. This particular implementation method does allow for swapping between 2 items by use of the same key character, which is of particular benefit for switching between long and close range weapons.

Thank you for your kind and completely irrelevant reply.

I read the topic you have referenced prior to making starting this one. First the area of focus of that topic, entitled 'Inventory "EQUIP" tab', is on armor and jewelry. Specific suggestion are made for that tab of the Inventory window, you as an experienced player should be well aware that you can not equip weapons or tools from that location. Second the topic you mentioned discusses making sets of items; and while your opinion is part of that discussion specific implementation ideas are not discussed.

The third reason your reply is completely irrelevant comes from the rules for this forum:

To keep things running smoothly please adhere to the following:

- 1 idea per thread only. If you find that the idea of the thread brings you onto another idea, make a new thread.
- Search the forum for identical/similar ideas before posting.
- Keep the posts on-topic and relevant.
As the topic you reference does not cover what I am suggesting and is a different idea, the rule regarding separate posts therefore requires me to create a new thread and not tack my suggestion on to the other thread as rider.

Thank you again for your kindness in taking the time to make your previous reply. If you would like to reply again please do try to follow the third rule for this forum, "keep the posts on-topic and relevant." I would be very happy to hear that you think it is a bad idea and why, as that would be relevant.

Abe -- I'm afraid that I totally fail to see the utility of having a keypress for what you are suggesting, especially since it would slow down armor changes and have little effect on weapons changes.

Ryzom is not a "twitch" game.  (With the server lag, it can't be.) You don't need (and can't get) instant switch, and that is the only case that I can think of where having keys assigned would really give you any more functionality than the current system.

It would involve a lot of coding in the main client and some way of interacting the macros (which is what you are asking for) to the "Hands Bar" or the "Equipment tab".  That would involve coding at the server level as well.  I'd rather see the devs working on real problems like the failure of sup mats to properly respawn on season change or just in building new lands and content.

-- my opinion, given for free and worth what you paid for it.

Thank you, Bitttymacod. I am evidently lacking sufficient imagination to find how what I suggested could as you say "slow down armor changes". I will look in to how much trouble it is to code it into the client for my own use.

I came up with the idea when I couldn't find an easy way to rearm myself after a javing's disarm attack. Later when another player dragged an aggressive mob by me while I was digging and I got killed before I could grab the mouse and make the need clicks to start arming myself I began earnestly searching for a solution. Thank you for confirming that there is no current solution.

Your system would  not allow another keypress until the armor piece had finished equipping. Using the Equipment Tab, I can switch all ten jewels and five armor pieces in the time it normally takes to equip three pieces and then the last piece takes full time for a total of four equip time elapsed for fifteen pieces.  Hence the slowdown.

As for the aggro drag, you're not going to be able to arm up enough to be effective against aggro that's already chewing your ass, even with keystrokes.  My solution is a maco (assigned to "Q" because it is just below the keys that I use for harvesting) that does the following: Stop current Action. Self Heal 900 (Bar 10 Action 9). Melee Protection Aura (Bar 8 action 9).  That leaves me on Bar 8 where my speed up and major magic spells are.  I'm in MPA so that means that I have time to evaluate whether I can take the mob solo (usually not) and run for safety or equip my amps.

Some of this may be related to how we each use the controls.  I have my right hand continuously on the mouse unless I'm "talking" in  a chatbox. I move and target with the mouse, and my most used actions are top row 1 - 6 done with my left hand. (Plus the abovementioned Q, and I use the tilde key for "interrupt".) If you are using arrow-keys or WASD, your experience is going to be much different.

Actually, if you had read that thread as you claim, you would see it does mention being able to include tools and weapons in the sets (post 5), so it does, in fact, cover your topic. Therefore, by your own argument, you would have been equally relevant adding your views to that discussion as starting a new thread. I can see where you're coming from though; I do find posts along the lines of "wrong forum", "there's already a thread" etc. to be very annoying and un-constructive. I have a name for them but not allowed to post it lol

I'm also going to implement a similar version to Bittty (makes note to include 3 Ts) for when I get attacked, I like that suggestion. :o)

You can't "complete" the mainland. If one thinks one has seen or done everything there, one is kidding oneself. But be prepared to "get out what you put in," because the mainland does not coddle or hold hands.
