As I started client today, it prompted me to patch for all the new goodies that have been announced recently.

However, after I finished patching it, it now crashes on startup, before I can see the loginwindow, or even the Ryzom window at all. I'm on windows 7, if it matters.

Crash window says:

A failed assertion occurs
ProcName: client_ryzom_rd.exe
Date: 2012/11/27 21:03:37
File: Z:\home\nevrax\code\nel\src\3d\driver\direct3d\driver_direct3d_sh ader.cpp
Line: 402
FuncName: NL3D::setFX
Reason: "drv->activeShader (&s)"

No log

Any ideas? Anyone else getting same?

Edit: Found it now, got on CEB and read topic... For those that are to lazy, update directX. linky: http://goo.gl/7K9cY

Gasket
"It's shite being tryker! We're the lowest of the low. The scum of Atys! The most wretched, miserable, servile, pathetic trash that was ever shat into civilization. Some people hate the Matis. I don't. They're just wankers. We, on the other hand, are COLONIZED by wankers. Can't even find a decent culture to be colonized BY. We're ruled by effete arseholes. It's a shite state of affairs to be in, Marceline, and ALL the fresh air in the world won't make any ****** difference"

I also run Win 7 (64-bit) - compatibility mode or not, game crashes at exactly the same point, with same error.
Tried the directX install suggested by gasket - failure to install (think I'm at or past 9.0c version). Have re-installed program 3 times, to see if changing start configuration would help. Nope. Always same error.

Exact error reported by machine:

or, from the error message machine wanted to send to Microsoft:

That is about all I have -- solutions?

Question: Just what is "CEB"? Tried to search on the term, after 2 pages at 40 entries per page, found nothing at all that was remotely related to this thread.

(Not all that interested in the Ceylon Electricity Board, or European Baseball)

Still doing what is was doing - crash on start.

Anyone clueful?

http://chat.ryzom.com/ceb_ryzom_setup.exe

CEB is a live chat support tool, like an IRC client, lets you chat with the CSR's out of game. Or when the server is down or when you have problems with your client.

Search "ryzom CEB" for mor info

Hi, i'm ig now, can't past the link, but see forums at:
Official News (arispotle)
Ryzom News - November 2012
There i read about updating DirectX or activate OpenGL inside Ryzom Config
I activated OpenGL, it worked partially: no error message, can log in, but black haircolour, black parts of armor.

Solution found (don't ask me why this works)

I downloaded and installed "directx_Jun2010_redist.exe".
Then I ran "dwwebsetup.exe" (available at site given by 1st poster), it failed.
Then I ran "dwwebsetup.exe" a second time, it succeeded ! (This sequence was the same on another identical machine)

Program then started, patched, and worked.

Thanks folks

(tried OpenGL, no good, maybe better on Linux?)

Fully solved after:
Updating DirectX: http://goo.gl/7K9cY
And changed back from OpenGL to "Auto"
Strange but yes, had to change back to "Auto" to get rid of the black textures, lol ☺

I suppose you have AMD/ATI gfx...
for those auto is the same as DirectX
The color changes are caused by the use of some OpenGL options that are nvidia specific and not available in the AMD/ATI drivers (might be available on newer cards though)

In short: if you have a nvidia gfx card both solutions are viable, if you have a AMD/ATI gfx card only the DirectX update is a viable solution
