IDEAS FOR RYZOM

My proposal is to have a small window (which you could open and close with a shortcut key) containing keywords and phrases that you can simply double click and have them inserted in whichever chat window you currently have open.
Three tabs line the top, English, German and French.
Each tab has the exact same phrases in each language so for example, " Yes" in position 1 in English will be in the same spot in both the German and French tabs.

Here's a visual example: (Red is the currently open tab)
.--------------------------------------------------------------
| English | Deutsch | Français |
------------'--------------'--------------'------ -----------------
1. Yes…………………………………………….
2. No……………………………………………...
3. What can I do for you?…….…………………
4. Can you help me?……….…………………...
5. What are you doing?…….…………………..
6. Where to? …………………………………….
7. Attack! ………………………………………...
8. Follow me! …………………………………....
9. Use magic…………………………………….
10. Heal please……………………………........
'----------------------------------------------------------- ------'

And here's the German tab:
.--------------------------------------------------------------
| English | Deutsch | Français |
------------'--------------'--------------'------ ---------------
1. Ja…………………………………………….
2. Nein……………………………………….....
3. Was kann ich für Sie tun?…….………...…
4. Können Sie mir helfen?……….……....…...
5. Was machts du den?…….………………...
6. Wohin? …………………………………...…
7. Angriff!……………………………………......
8. Folgen Sie mir!……………………………...
9. Magie benutzen……………………………..
10. Heilen bitte………………………………...
'----------------------------------------------------------- -----'

I remember someone wondering about having Google Translate put in, but that would be quite a step to try and integrate it into the chats, as well as draining a little bit of bandwidth for each translation. You'd also need to think of someway for it to detect the chat language (or provide you with a choice for the translation). While Google Translate is handy, I've seen it translate "My wallet is lost!" to "My pigeons are loose!" from English to German...

This was just a thought for a quick solution that allows interaction with all players and removing part of the language barrier. If neither party can speak the other's language, then it would be extremely handy for a quick conversation, assisting someone or being assisted yourself!

You could also include the other used languages such as Spanish and Russian.

Of course, having someone with knowledge of 2 or all the languages would prove a lot more useful I believe. No substitute for a real person :)

Welp! That's new to me! Thanks for that. :)
Does it translate for someone else with their client set to a different language?

While I agree that copying from the chat window would be awesome, I simply use /chatLog and load the log file into ZyRoom

I think it does but not sure - too long since I last used it...

Just gave it a test with a friend who was using the client in German.
All of my comments came out in English on his client and all of his came out in German on mine.

Emotes however appear to translate. So you can spam /rice in any language :D

Now that is dumb.
Seems it shouldn't be to hard to hold, what? a dozen strings in each localized language on the client, and send the corresponding ID out to each relevant client when needed, instead of the actual string. If it works for emotes, same principle.
