I have done a fresh install of ubuntu 10.04 LTS and a install of ryzom.

When I start /usr/games/ryzom.sh that first looks for updates I get this:

kmarien@Evo-D310:~$ /usr/games/ryzom.sh
Found 228 BNP files in /home/kmarien/.ryzom/data
Patching Ryzom data...
rsync: failed to connect to www.ryzom.com: Connection refused (111)
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(122) [Receiver=3.0.7]
kmarien@Evo-D310:~$

What can this mean. I'm also not able to play before patching.

Please help!

The Ryzom webservers recently had some hiccups (website was down as well), and it seems to me that they forgot to fire up the rsync server again, rendering updates impossible.

There's no official statement I am aware of, but the simple answer to your question is: Wait, or find a friend who already got an updated version and can send you his copy of the files.

You may take the static unofficial client built by Shevek.

Search for "Ryzom ppa", and use those to install the game, it will patch automaticly.
