To help solve an issue that came up in the patch release section, perhaps a /peau (fr), /fell (de), /hide (en) feature could be implemented as a micro patch sometime soon.

It would allow a player to hide their online status from all others (showing offline), also they would only show up in a /who for the region.

Another consideration would be to have the ignore feature effectively hide a character's online status from anyone who has been ignored; whether or not the ignored player could still see their chats is certainly open for discussion.

While I really like the idea of very minor tweaks, I'm not in favor of getting patch happy nor implementation happy as that was a major turn off of mine from other MMO's. Fully realizing Nevrax's idea for the game is one of my goals.

Merci,
Hadrian Kross

I can remember games from a decade ago that announced your arrival, they had a command to switch it off.

/stealthlogin or /silentlogin

only a few ever used it, but it made them happy.

Good suggestion!

The German word should be something like /versteckt (=hidden), /privat (=private, non-public), /unsichtbar (=invisible)

The German "fell" means "fur" in English which can also be referred to as "hide" depending on how furry the animal is. An automated wrong translation probably.

I would plead not to overdo privacy issues. I am recalling the customs in LP muds, the text based predecessors of modern MMOs - there, the online status of every player character could be watched even if you weren't logged into the game proper. Much more, the intermud feature allowed that for all interconnected games of that kind all over the world. I fail to see much threat oder damage therefrom, except when the RL person behind a char is known by somebody (e.g. the employer) and her playtime may be monitored that way. That was one of the reasons a silent login was introduced in some games.

The online/offline status message is threatening for griefers, gankers and harassers rather than for normal players. A stalker chasing some player char may always refer to a simple /who, follow universe, faction and other chats, place alts at capital porters etc., and a player who doesn't want to restrict all communication can hardly evade from. The game is made for communication and interaction, not for hiding away.

I do not need nor want entering the game nor playing it stealthily, and don't see any need for any rule abiding player to do so. Rather I fear opportunities for abusers opening up once such stealth mode will be supported. Thus I would urgently plead to restrict that to the login/logoff message if at all and not give in to any further demand.

Exactly my point and thank you for mentioning it.

This is (online) MMORPG game style which requires INTERACTING with the other players around the glob.

What is the point to be hidden? You can always politely say YES or NO to whatever or whomever. If you like your privacy then I’ll suggest that you drop playing MMO till you understand the concept.

I wouldnt mind a "friends list request" but I feel a stealth mode is to much.. It would only get misused I think.

Also I think showing offline on someones list that has you on ignore should have been implimented a long time.. That just makes sense.

Not a true "hide" feature, but it will give you control over who can see your activity. After the next patch, it will work like this:

Your online status (light in friend list and notification message) will only be visible to your friends and guildmates. So:

- Online status and notification in friends list is only functional if you are friends with each other (even if you are in the same guild)

- Guild status and notification will not be affected. (So guildmates can see if you are online, and they get the notification message.)

Feedback is appreciated.

How about including a config-option like this (checked option = default)
Show online status to:
● friends / guild
○ friends & guild
○ everybody

I appreciate that idea and hope that it can be implemented without too much effort.

Only, I don't understand the difference between "friends / guild" and "friends & guild".
Guildmates are always visible by online status in the guild window so there is no point to hide it in flist or notification. I would instead suggest the categories "guild only" (for the paranoics *eg*), "friends & guild", "everybody except ignored", and "everybody".

You are on an online game to interact with why would you want to hide from them when the ignore feature in game works just fine for that. If you are chatting, teaming, and running around you will be seen anyway.

I have no idea how this would be even implemeted with the current system we have. I don't want my friends list wiped and have all my old friends gone. Honestly I like going back and seeing the old names it brings me down memory lane. And it is even better when I see a light light up haven't seen in a while or a long time and from what I understand I would not be able to see that if they don't have me on their friends list for some reason.

Please don't implement this or I believe a lot of players will be very upset.

I don't want to go around saying, "Hey add me so I can see when you come online."

Honestly I didn't see a need to comment earlier because I thought it had no chance of being implemented but now I am concerned.

Personally, I often use the friends list to CHECK if people are online and then remove them. That would be completely useless. I also have a bunch of crafters on there and guild leaders.

The reason this idea came up in the first place is because some person feared being stalked by somebody in real life? Or at least that is what I understand from reading where it came from. Honestly, as stated in there he has more things to worry about than playing a game.
All the new patch did was notify you when people came on in your guild or friends list. How's that much different than checking your friends list every few mintues/seconds. I have a tendency to constantly open windows such as friends/guild/forums when things get remotely slow. I think having a hide feature completely destroys the purpose of the friends list and notifications in the first place.

Privacy issues can be dealt with through ignore/tickets/and CSR intervention. If it really is such a huge issue then maybe just find a different less extreme way to implement something.

I apologize for ranting a bit but I am a bit annoyed and frustrated.

I like the four options Daomei mentioned. I'd personally set it to "everybody except ignored" on my characters.

Meagon, I don't think there's anything about wiping the friends list in here, but I agree with not having to have someone on your list for them to see you as online (or vice versa).

yeah I'm with Meagon on this.... I realize this is an issue that some feel strongly about but I don't think this is the way. Like many I have encountered many homins in my time on Atys and I would hope that everyone on my list also has me on their list theres no way to know. The highlight of my Ryzom experience is opening my friends list and notice that an old friend has returned.
