Inspiration given by Crailus

The moment was approaching. Two matisians, Meagon and Crailus, had been chosen to lead the army against the approaching threat, and they were now standing on top of the tunnel of woe safe from the kitin inside. The wind blew snow in their faces as they looked out across the blanketed forest as they searched for signs of a marauder approach. Scouts were out watching for any sign that the marauders were mobilizing. The moment was approaching where the battle would begin.

Five days ago, the first troops had arrived in Knoll of Dissent and they had slowly pushed back the marauders that had spread out through the region forcing them back into Hidden Source. The bulk of the marauders were stationed at the abandoned outpost just on top of the cliffs along with their leader, Akilia. Not wanting to attack before ready, Meagon elected to set up camp near the bottom of the ramp allowing more homins to arrive for her cause. During this time, Meagon began plotting their strategy with Crailus and thinking about the events that led up to this moment.

Trouble was still going on in the homeland with the king and queen missing and the prince in charge. Being the matis corporal, it was Meagon’s job to organize and prepare the troops for the battle ahead of them. The four races had come together against a common enemy, the marauders. The marauders have been causing trouble for ages and their support has been growing and their patience dwindling. They wanted recognition, power and land. Their threats loomed over all the races and negotiations were made, so that the marauders would be defeated.

The fight with the marauders had been going on for sometime, but the races had not known that their support was growing. They had been a minor threat in the past and were easily defeated. Currently however the situation was different. The marauders had already taken over all of Hidden Source and were now pushing further into matis territory. At first, it had been thought that these invaders were the fyros, but the confusion was quickly sorted out and ambassadors were sent to all the leaders asking for aid and stressing the importance of stopping these villains before they gained too much support.

The zorai and trykers responded almost immediately and started gathering troops, the fyros took more convincing seeming as the matis and fyros have been enemies since long ago. The fyros finally gave in though when the marauders played an act of terrorism on their newly restored town of Thesos. Having been burned to the ground not too long ago by the Matis, it had been rebuilt by the hands of their citizens only to be blown to bits in seconds by the marauder technology. Immediately, the fyros began organizing troops and sending them to aid the cause.

The races still could not separate their differences completely. Sure they could come together and perhaps fight against a common enemy, but the events of the past could not be forgiven so easily. The races had different areas that they designated to themselves within the camp, and it was necessary that the armies stay segregated. Interaction was rare, but some homins were able to communicate freely and set aside their differences.

Inside the main tent were the war leaders of the four races. Representatives from each race stood before Meagon and Crailus. It had been agreed upon that these two matisians were to lead the homins to victory. Their prestige and reputations were able to overcome any negative feelings that anybody felt towards them. A homin always recognized a superior and did not question their authority. Dawn was approaching as the plan was discussed once more. Each leader was to lead their race as instructed. Trykers would take the left, Zorai the right, and the Matis and Fyros would share the middle. As the day started, the leaders dispersed to prepare the troops.

Meagon stood on the highest point of the hill as she awaited word from Crailus. He was to come to her when the armies were ready. She was donning her white marauder armor with her boosted vedice sword. No doubt both would be stained by the end of this and she would have to spend days cleaning it, but if she came out of this alive and victorious, it would be worth it. The wind whipped her hair around, for her helmet was held in her hand. Preferring people to see her face she disliked helmets, but it was a necessary piece of armor when it came to battle.

Crailus approached Meagon’s post cautiously not wanting to startle her. His armor matched her own except it was black in color and he bore an axe instead of a sword preferring the extra damage to speed. Coming up next to her he looked out across the land where snow was falling heavily and the added wind caused little visibility. “The armies are ready. We should get going. Scouts have reported that the marauders are just starting to prepare.” She didn’t respond, so Crailus continued. “The weather seems to be getting worse. We’re going to be fighting in a blizzard.” Peering over at Meagon she finally comes out of her thoughts.

“Yes, it won’t stop us though. Nothing can stop the homins of Atys.” She says placing her helmet on her head and pulling her sword out of the ground. “Let us go to battle.” Comes her voice through the slit in her helmet. Crailus nods and the pair of them approach the armies hidden behind the hills safe from the blowing winds and spying marauders.

Facing the four armies in front of her, Meagon raises her arm trying to signal the groups to be quiet. Once the noise has died down, Meagon again removes her helmet to speak to the homins. “Homins of Atys. Many of you may have called me an enemy, friend, ally, acquaintance, or even stranger prior to this moment, but I assure you right now I consider you all family. We are the inhabitants of this planet all having derived from the same routes though we do not share similar beliefs. We do have a common enemy. The enemy is the marauders that lay at the top of the cliffs in Hidden Source believing that they can storm in and take over the land we call home. We will not stand for this and we must take matters into our own hands and put a stop to this aggression. The marauders have been defeated by us before and will again today. We have something worth fighting for and as long as we have that nothing can stand in our way. I will not lie to you, some of us are bound to die today, and every loss will be felt and mourned. Your sacrifices and bravery will not be forgotten on this day. Go forth up the ramp and claim back our territory!” Meagon yells finishing her small speech before replacing her helmet and holding up her sword to the cheers of the homins below.

The signal is then given to the four leaders of the armies and they are marching. Meagon and Crailus lead the crowd through the snow and wind. It is clear when the first signs of marauders appear that they had quickly prepared for battle. The two armies face off before signals are given. Crailus rushes forward while shouting, “For Atys!” and both sides went surging forward. Weapons clash and immediately blood starts to stain the white snow under their feet.

It seems like hours have gone by, but in reality it has only been a few short moments. Crailus and Meagon had been given a deadly mission by the nation’s leaders. In order to prevent too much bloodshed on either side they were to find and take out the leaders of the marauder army. Namely Akilia, but it is rumored that she has a few others working alongside her. As Meagon’s sword pierced the armor of a marauder she heard somebody shouting her name. Turning to face the speaker, it was Crailus and he was pointing somewhere. Over the clashing of the battle Meagon could not hear his words, but following his gaze she understood completely. Not far away was Akilia striking down atysian after atysian.

With a slight nod to Crailus, they were both off skirting through the fighting homins towards her. After much dodging and the occasional clash they were almost on top of her when she noticed them. Meagon imagined that underneath the helmet she was probably smirking thinking she had the upperhand. Crailus charged her first and Meagon was about to follow when a weapon collided with her armor. The impact took her by surprise and staggering backwards she raised her sword. The figure in front of her wasn’t very tall but he held the axe in his hands confidently.

Rahael had become a marauder rather early on and it had broken apart the friendship between him and Meagon. Meagon had no desire to fight her old friend, but she had no choice in the matter. He had betrayed the nations by becoming a marauder and was now her enemy. As she brought her sword around to swing at him she just hoped Crailus could handle Akilia.

Crailus had charged after Akilia not noticing that Meagon had gotten sidetracked. Immediately the two became engrossed in battle. Akilia seemed to have the upper hand as Crailus struggled to just defend himself from Akilia’s swift strikes. He was faring rather well when he noticed Meagon missing. Fearing her safety, Crailus sidestepped around Akilia as he tried to find his companion. Unfortunately, when he caught sight of Meagon fighting Rahael he hesitated in blocking Akilia and Crailus was knocked to the ground. An involuntary shout escaped him as his armor was slashed by metal. Breathing heavily, Crailus pulled his sword in front of him to block off Akilia and used strained his muscles to keep the marauder from killing him.

Meagon had the upper hand on Rahael. Her experience and drive put her in prime position to take on any foe that was presented to her. A spark could be seen in her eye through the slit of her helmet that told you she had true passion when fighting for her people. Rahael’s strength was dwindling as they’re parry game went on with few hits when Meagon heard Crailus’ shout. Seeing him on the ground literally inches from death gave the matis warrior the extra burst of adrenaline needed to strike past Rahael’s defenses and strike him severely. Not waiting to see the results, Meagon turned towards her companion pinned down beneath Akilia's blade.
