IDEAS FOR RYZOM

I was wondering what people think about this idea, a server that is only compromised of the Silan Island and it is FFA PVP all the time and everywhere, like a little FFA PVP Arena Island.

I think it would be awesome, You could reach max level for the PVP in a short time, albiet, it would be difficult unless we had some awesome Anti-PK players there killing all the hypothetical gankers, a player made police force for Silan, it would also build alot of interest in the game and give people an idea of what the End Game PVP might be like.

I think it would be an epic experiment, I think it could really help the game to, maybe if you required a sub to access it, dunno, free or pay a sub, it would be super awesome and fun to play there.

What do you all think?

PvP areas have been mooted before with little reaction - see other threads. Not least this recent thread: http://app.ryzom.com/app_forum/?page=topic/view/8435/11#11

I would leave Silan as a training area - there is a PvP arena there already.

Maybe a Silan clone Island which is devoted to PvP, with everybody attackable all the time, for people who want that. It should be free to TP to/from and perhaps different areas for different level players.

Yeah, what I mean is like a small mini world that is FF PVP, there might not be enough of a population for a FF PVP regular server, but if there was a single server with just Silan for FFA PVP I think it would work and bring people who PVP alot of enjoyment.

If it was free to play also I could see it really being a big hit.

I do not think allowing people to TP there though would be good, it would throw off the balance of the game that having it only be for lower level players with only access to low level materials and eventually you would reach a max level, I guess when the hardest creatures on Silan stopped giving you XP, you would also have no access to catalyzers.

It would be fun for sure, as everyone could make a newb there and level him up in no time, and then it would just be like a small faction war possibly, some people would be there to help other people get good gear(well the best on the island), people would harvest and craft to make gear for other nebs on the island, and you would have groups of people who just killed everyone on sight, which would lead to someplayers being like the police, being called to peoples aid and protecting players while they got to max level.

I think there would be enough people from the three servers to populate the little place, and also, some people who are normally againts FFA PVP might realize they actually enjoy it, as you would get to experience the balanced PVP that an easily attainable max level server like that would create.

And like I said before, if it was free to play, people would get to experience some real PVP that would be similar to end game PVP, but instead of being level 250 players they would be around 50-100 or so, not sure how high you can realistically get on Silan.

To me it sound like it would be really fun, and I do not think it would be to hard to implement.

Honestly I dont think there would be enough people willing to use this area... There are several places on the mainland that are a ffa pvp area but it never gets used for pvp..

Sounds like a great idea to me.

It's worth a test at least and would definitely bring in other gamers looking for pvp fighting immediately. Not to mention it would be a good place to pass the time if you just wanted to get into some hectic battles with other players for fun.

As for the unused FFA PVP areas on the mainland, there are a few differences that would make this server unique. It's smaller size, forced pvp, and immediate access by new players would help a lot in both attracting new players to pvp and providing an environment where even a small user base could have an enjoyable pvp experience.

There would likely be some issues to work through, but as an addition to the game I think it would attract a lot of interest and spur new development ideas.

Let me tell you that if Silan had been a Free For All Player Versus Player (which is what I assume FFA PVP stands for) area that I would have been out of Ryzom in aproximately 20 minutes. I agree that making it such would bring in people who want to do PvP, but they would then be disappointed and upset when they went to the mainland and found that it wasn't PvP.

As it is the mission component of Silan is seriously misleading, even though it is necessary to introduce people to the moderately complex mechanics of the game. The game itself is not, in its essence, a PvP game or a mission based game; it is a sandbox with occasional PvP and mission based elements. There are people who enjoy those elements. There are also a lot of people who don't particularly enjoy them or enjoy them only in small amounts or don't care as long as they are not bothered in how they play the game.

I looked over some of the later posts and found them to be more confusing than enlightening. Is the proposal to have two different entry islands? One PvP and one normal Silan? Enchiridion, are you aware of the fact that Silan has no level cap? (Things slow down *a lot* above level 40 or so, but there is no cap.) How would you "force PvP"? If PvP is "forced" somehow, how can it possibly be "enjoyable"? Enjoyment comes from enganging in activities you want to do; "forcing" implies making someone do what they don't want to do.

I can't see this as enhancing the game at all.

As I read it he either wants Silan to be turned into an open ganking zone, or create a new ganking realm consisting solely of Silan.
Either is a bad idea. As you said, people'd either quit instantly when confronted with a ganking zone as the start zone, or they'd quit when leaving it and finding the rest of the world isn't a ganking zone.
And for the small number who'd like to be in a ganking zone on a server consisting only of a ganking Silan, the cost of hosting a separate server would be prohitibive.

It's already possible to open yourself to gankers, just go into the arena and wait for someone to arrive and start hacking away at you.

I apologize if you misunderstood me, I enjoy PVP and don't consider it just "ganking". I've played in other PVP games and fought against gankers, pkers, and others and prefer to defend the innocent. Full PVP is about a lot more than ganking.

I respect your opinions, but for me the added value of PVP combat greatly outweights any negatives and I find it greatly enhances my enjoyment of the game.

Obviously no one would be forced to join the server, nor would it be prohibitive to host. In fact, the game already seems established for ideas like this with the Ryzom Ring system. However, I think the support of the official developers in creating an actual FFA PVP arena would make for a better overall experience and possibly inject new users and possibilities for the game.

YOu make many good points Enchiridion, from the responses, it seems that people do not understand what I am conceiving, I think that you do though.

I was trying to continue my post above but some strange glitch would not let my type any more sentences, anyways, I was saying that FFA PVP i about way more than ganking, it is about forming real lines of war against real player factions, that is the essence of a good mmorpg, player driven content, and isnt that what Ryzom is all about?

So, no FFA PVP is not about ganking, or "forcing" others to play a way that they do not want to play...or even trying to ruin someone's enjoyment of the game.

It is about having the chance to form realistic opponents in an open world, and especially with the proposed Silan Island, an open world where no one group of people who grind like maniancs or macro have some kind of madvantage, a FFA PVP world where all the players can become equal within a few days time...it would be cool...think about it.

I generally like ryzom's idea to allow both pvp players and non-pvp players to coexist to the same time in the same area. However i also see that on Silan there is little to no option to do so, arenas are not a real option when there is nothing to gain hanging out there.

But what about strengthening kami and karavan presence on silan? Both could have npcs similar to those 4 instructor npcs. They could explain what kami and karavan are about and allow new players to get or loose fame with them quickly up to the point where they can tag. I think it would be great to have tagged players on silan and i really doubt this feature would be used as infrequently as on mainlands today. It will prevent new players from thinking that there are no pvp options in ryzom. There are a few new games out there that somewhat have the same concept about tagged pvp ryzom has, and people get tagged there a lot more frequently than in ryzom. There could even be factional vendors who sell a few q50 uber-items for faction points (needs a tweak on how faction points can be obtained by tagged but unaligned players) that cannot be obtained in any other way.

I dislike the FFA Silan idea because i think new players who like pvp will be disapointed when they learn there is no FFA mainlands. It would make silan more unlike the mainlands which already is a big problem with new players. And new players are unlikely to willingly start two toons on ffa silan and real silan, they are - and should be - proud of what they accomplished with their first toon and be able to use that throughout the entire game.

However a full FFA server is something to think about imo - but that is a rather big change that divides the codebase for different servers and thus unlikely to happen.

Perhaps the jungle portion of Silan can be made open pvp much like the prime roots. This would be a better indicator to a new player of what it is truly like on the mainland by allowing PvPers and PvEers to coexist. Much like the prime roots the diggers there would do so at there own risk but also get the best mats from both digging and the mobs.

Yeah, I am not a programmer or anything so I am not sure how hard setting up the server would be or if it is even financially possible considering they still have not finished development on the patches from 6 months ago.

Having the jungle area of Silan be a PVP zone would actually be pretty cool though, I think thats a good idea, would be just like a mini ML then.

#14 [en]

PVP in the Silan jungle would be a good start, but it would still be beneficial in my opinion to offer both a non PVP silan and a PVP Silan and have them lead into the same server.

Also, one way to satisfy PVP players that join the game is to make the Marauder City full FFA PVP. If they set it up that way, PVP players could select that as the capital when they come out of PVP Silan which would continue the full PVP gameplay.

This way players have the option of doing the starter island as PVP or Non PVP and then have the option of selecting a PVP zone or non PVP zone when they leave the starter island. This would most likely satisfy the preferences of a lot of different people and allow both gameplay styles to contribute to the overall server population.

Either way, introducing a FFA PVP zone for all character levels would be nice as well, since it seems like the Prime Roots is for end game play mostly.

man, that is like the perfect compromise, good thinkin Enchi! It keeps the whole population on one server and satisfies both playstyles, would be awesome to see something like that implemented.
