IDEAS FOR RYZOM

how does it not fit the roleplay? teleports are already IC in several forms besides pacts.

Where? The gates between regions are just that. Gates, not teleports. Going to Almatii wood is via a pact. I don't see teleportation outside of pacts anywhere in game.

the ring, random npcs can send you to the woods, look around more :)

The Ring is not RP - in fact it is anit-RP in terms of Ryzom canon. It is a function of Ryzom the Game, not Atys the World.

((One might argue in terms of RP that it is a dream machine. You do not actually go anywhere, only have a very vivid dream. Like a dream you bring nothing back when you leave the Ring, neither true experience nor any goods.))

By "random npcs" what do you mean? People who are just wandering the lands like Patrollers, Prospectors and the like? I have to admit that I have never met any. What kind of characters are they? Or do you mean the "random" NPC's that are at the various altars to Jena and Ma-Duk. The instructors for the occupations give you pacts to get to Almati Woods and the Kitin Lair, if that is what you are talking about, and even then, there is a certain stretching of the Lore to do that.

None of that is relevant to the fact that we normal homins are not able to teleport at will, and there is no Lore that would allow us to. Therefore the idea of teleport stations in our apartments is anti-RP. New Lore would have to be written to work it in to any role-playing.

In addition, I don't think it's a particularly useful thing to do even in terms of game mechanics, though that might change if one were allowed to craft "off the shelf", so to speak.

The few hundred yard straight run from the Fairhaven Karavan tp to Windyhead is hardly worth adding code work for apt tps.In Pyr perhaps its a slightly more onerous task but not to my mind worth the effort.

The ring, with an IC npc who talks about it, isnt an in character thing?

suppose there are people who actually walk everywhere, but I havent seen them, nor as much as I enjoy a good rp scene do I.

Roleplay requires more than one person interacting to be roleplay imho. telling a story that no one will ever read or hear about my walk to my apartment doesnt fit that.

Rather if I am after roleplay I would think saving the time of walking to your apartment to dump your bag or grab gear would encourage having more time for real rp.

I think the term yall are aiming for instead of rp is immersion. that I could see at least, though going through a splash screen to get to my apartment rather than going to a splash screen to get to the city tp, then walk to my apartment doesnt seem to make much difference to me.

An analogy of adding a tp to apts would be for every NYC apt to have it's own subway station. That would seem pretty silly and unrealistic.-Kil

not a subway station, a "beamme home scotty" and since tthis is a world with magic realism is kinda overrated :)

hmm if we get app teleports then i want to reroute mine to somewhere else

Garuth -- at that point you may as well institute Lloyd's Beacon as well so that people can easily mark a good digging/hunting spot and tp to it and then back to the FH tp, then back and so forth. Lloyd's Beacon was my favorite spell while playing Might and Magic, but it just "doesn't work" in Ryzom. It's not justifiable in terms of Lore, expense in coding or in terms of role-play and player experience. That's in my very much not so humble opinion.

Atys is not an "inherently magical" world. We can do certain very limited invocations of elemental power and afflictions. We can heal others and draw on the power of nature to heal and help ourselves. For craft we pick little bits and pieces of the world up and fuse them together with craft and skill. To get materials we kill beasts or we dig. We have chemistry for thing like armor and guns. We have no more understanding of how Jena manages to restore our Seed (or, as the Kami would say, how Ma-Duk does the same) than we do of the teleports or the rainbow gates that saved us from the Great Swarming.

Until we do, we won't have the means to make teleports to our apartments or guild halls.

-- Bittty

P.S. As Isaac Asimov once said in response to Arthur C. Clarke. "Any sufficiently advanced system of magic is indistinguishable from technology." Magic has its own rules and limitations. The mere presence of magic in a world does not mean that there are no limits.

- 1

there is a much more fundamental change required, and that is the way storage works :)

#27 [en]

-1 for a few reasons. I don't see it fitting into the lore at all and I don't see a need. It's simple enough to teleport to the city and run the building. Just an extra pact wasting space in the bag. I agree with most of what Bittty said.

Never argue with an idiot; they will just drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

I'd rather like to have a stable for my apartment (be able to move goods directly from mektoub to apt and reverse) or be able to craft in the apartment.

And for Pyr a simple way to remember the way:
As kami or neutral go from Kami/Cerakos Gate through the Arispotle Avenue and always have a wall on the left hand side (apt in Coriolis Circus, Miners' Row or Abylus Circus)
As karavan or neutral enter from the south gate (closest to the kara tp) and walk just a few meters (apt in Southgate Road, Lower Piros Street or Forge and Hammer Way)
This way it's most of the time a straight line ;-)
