Hi,

Some time ago, someone had the not so good idea to automatically translate the "around" channel. Anyway, I'll try to refrain from expressing all my disgust about this "thing".

Today, I discovered that, having the game in English, I was completely unable to read what my fellow comrades, who have the game in French, were saying in the around channel. And by "unable to read", I mean I cannot see anything being said. It's not that I have blank lines: there is no lines at all. And obviously, this goes the other way: those with the game in French were able to see what each other were saying, but not what I said.
Fun fact: because emotes are not translated, they are the only way to talk in the around channel when two people have the game in a different language. The good thing is that a quick bugfix is to prefix everything said in /s with "/em bugfix: ".

Nobody listened to me back then when I said this was a big mistake. Now that it's completely broken and causing heavy damage to role-play (and communication in a general way), could we please go back and stop this monstrosity that is called auto-translate?

Ok, so Ululyn just restarted the translation scripts so we can all read each others.

By the way, the command to block translation in several languages:

/a setDontTranslateLangs us|fr

Its great way to open communications cross language but a toggle for on/off should have been implemented at settings/configuration alongside the release of this feature.

Now that the above has been revealed for turning it off, it might also be great if we could get the reversal command aswell for those that want to re-enable after using the above command.

Il manque effectivement des possibilités de réglages "simples" (genre cases à cocher). Ptet une bonne idée de faire une liste de ces possibilités de réglages ici même?

Heard from Siela that you just need to rerun the command without language specifier to opt back in.

Opt out:
/a setDontTranslateLangs fr (example)

Opt in:

/a setDontTranslateLangs

I'm totaly with you. This Translation tool should be set to Off by Default! And give us please the Option how we want to use it in the Settings.

Nice !

I guess this command won't translate english to french? or it won't display english to french + french to english ?

(thanks to answer or to add it on the wikis)

On the wiki, I wrote/translated

In FR

* https://fr.wiki.ryzom.com/wiki/Commandes_sp%C3%A9ciales#Alentours

* https://fr.wiki.ryzom.com/wiki/Chat#Les_canaux

In EN

If you start a sentence with > it won't be translated. It was true when i wrote on wiki, but I didn't test it since.

Thanks to check id it is still valid.

...This Translation tool should be set to Off by Default!...

I have been saying that but I was told that if it will be off by default no one will use it or something like that.

On the other hand it is still "stucked in testing" (means no current activity as far as I know), there supposed to be some UI options in final version and support for more channels.

+1

But I will translate it LOL

(sorry Kyriann Ba'Zephy :p)

Well, I am going to take the floor to defend this "heresy" which is one of the major advances in my opinion.
Events have gained a remarkable fluidity.
Everyone can express themselves in the language they want without having to bother trying to find a periphrase to express in a language they don't understand a concept that the person opposite won't understand!

Then of course this has constraints, the first one being to express oneself CORRECTLY because yes the translator can only translate what he understands and idk, imo, and other sms languages are to be avoided! But I say so much the better! What a joy to find an informative language and not a series of abbreviations without head or tail!
So thanks to the proofreader and yes, it must remain by default in the on position!

Note: I didn't translate this post on purpose...
