Hey,

i made a small translator application to help in everyday communication between two people who would ordinarily be unable to talk to eachother. It basically takes all your chat to google translator. The result of google translator is then displayed in a window that looks similar to a ryzom chat window. The window can be set to stick on top of the ryzom window (windowed mode only). It will work well if everyone writes carefully and avoid typos, abbreviations and slang.

It will translate everything for you but it will not translate what you are saying. If two players want to talk to eachother and don't speak the same language, both players need the application.

At this moment the application supports english, german, spanish and french clients. It is tested on windows but it may run on Linux and Mac-OS X as well. See instructions inside the zip file for details.

The manual has no french, spanish and russian translation yet. The russian client is not supported at this moment because i didn't find a volunteer to create the sysinfo filter. If you want to volunteer to do one (or more) of these, feel free to contact me.

Questions and bug reports welcome :)

Oh: If you are running Linux or MacOS X, please tell us if you managed to run it (and how). I will use it to add more specific instructions to the manual.

Thank you!

The Forum inserts those spaces into large "words" without spaces to prevent them from breaking the forum layout. However the link is clickable.

tried it under linux with both wine/mono and native/mono.
Both had missing icons, ie. can't set config file or quit ;-)
also had trouble resizing with native/mono, but that might of been a side effect or running inside vm

Hello!

Thanks, Karu!

I used PictureBox, now googled and discovered it is not supported by mono. Anyway, i didn't really need it and now replaced it with Button. At least it should allow to open the config and terminate the application now.

It's odd. I tested it using mono on windows and it worked... And it is such a tiny component.

Ah and a question: are the interface_xyz.icfg files located in the same directory as log_xyz.txt on linux? A missing icfg doesn't break the application, but i use chat colors from icfg to distinct chat channels.

yes they are

Hello!

Okay, i reactivated an old Fedora 14 netbook and fixed all breaking bugs.

- Icons visible now, config works as expected
- Resize+pan still sluggish, but somewhat working (try slowly haha)
- Fixed window title
- Coloring not working properly, all chat has the same color

If you have previously started another version of this app, you need to clean the application settings from your home folder. It's a known mono issue not to do that automatically.
It will be " rm -r ~/.local/share/Translator_Ryzom.exe_* " on most linux systems. If you miss it the application will not start up.

If you happen to run fedora 14 (i'm not recommending it) mono can be installed via:
" yum install mono-core mono-winforms "

P.S. none of the above applies to windows version, no need to clean out settings.

Edit: More Changes:
- Window pan fixed
- Window resize improved (though still sluggish)
- Font coloring fixed
- Increased Version to 0.2.4

for windows you can stick to 0.2.2 and be fine

casy,

i have a question about settings for this wonderful app. is there a way to enable and disable various channels? i don't often use them all, and would like to know if i can turn on and off channels. if there's an explanation for how to do this already, i'm sorry i've missed seeing it somehow.

This is a really awesome tool :) Thanks a lot, Casy :)
Very helpful for many of us to understand the French parts of RP-debates.
I have recommended it to some French-speaking players too and they also said it's a great help!

there are still ways to download this very handy app. perhaps there's a copy on bunny.net? (if not it's possible that one could be given so that this wonderful app doesn't die.)
