A few comments on Gilado Almati

As we have seen, the stele found in Chilling Swamp was erected in honor of the great botanist in 2512, 32 years after Almati's disappearance in 2481 and the First Great Swarming which occurred short after. This raises some questions, I would like to summarize here what I know, what I've heard, and what conclusions I draw from this.

Gilado Almati, born in 2403, was for many years master botanist in the court of the Matis King Domini. Shortly before the Great Swarm and the demise of old Matia he vanished. It was said that an investigation has been underway, which should shed light on the mysterious disappearance of some of his assistants and other disturbing incidents. Rumour went that Almati was involved in research that exceeded even the relatively generous rules of the Matis and the Karavan.

The final fate of the scientist has not been revealed yet. That a memorial stele was erected in 2512 by unknown homins is suggesting that he had followers and supporters beyond the period of the Great swarming. We can assume, however, not only due to his now very old age, that he is no longer alive. Almati was a highly productive researcher and developer, and it is unlikely that so much time had elapsed without a visible sign of his activity. That the memorial stele was not built in a prominent place of the monarchy, but in the deepest wilderness, is strengthenig the notion that his and his supporters' legacy are dealing with dissident or forbidden knowledge.

The rangers' camp in Almati forest, where remnants of Almati's laboratory are told to have been recovered and kept, has been erected in autumn 2534 [ooc: October, 2006].

It must be clarified now what was then been found and secured. An official statement of Atys Rangers' Commander Orphie Dradius should be waited for. The ownership of the objects from Almati's legacy is unclear, under my opinion. In case Almati was a criminal fugitive at the time of his disappearance, the Kingdom can certainly make a claim. If he was a political or ideological dissident on the run, this looks different again.

It is very likely, in my view, that the knowledge and techniques about to be revealed are high-risk practices which need to be treated with the utmost caution and restraint.
