IDEAS FOR RYZOM

Currently this doesn't working at full extent - items can't be dropped into equipment tab or hot bar (hands slots), unless they already placed in bag. It doesn't work with rooms and packers. You can drag & drop stuff forth and back between other tabs, i.e. bag>packer, or packer>packer, but equip tab and hotbar are excluded.

Again, it's "the little thing", involving more clicking than needed. What's the point in having bag as "intermediary" tab for drag & drop? Is it coding issue or just something that was overlooked? My guess is that would be fairly easy to implement direct drag & drop between all tabs and hotbar.

Given that the only reason I can see for dragging from a packer to the hands area would be ammunition for a missile weapon, it may well be a feature designed to slow down missile weapon users. As for dragging from your bag inventory to the hands, it's faster to just click on the hands and select (imho).

I will admit that there have been many times when I have wished to drag armor and jewels from my storage packers to my equipment tab, but I can see excellent coding reasons why you might want to have the equipment tab do a lookup to only one container rather than having to check for multiple accessible containers. (Note that you cannot drag and drop from your pack to the equip tab either; the boxes in the equip tab are clearly filtered lookup operations looking into your pack for compatible items.)

I often put various equipment into packers and mount for faster access. Given there is no separate bags, pre-organized sets or other ways of partition for equipment, it's better to hold everything i need in the packer placed next to tp or in stable rather than go to apartment and look through the mess that is room inventory. Clicking on the hands slots is indeed faster that dragging, but you have to place the item in the bag first, which involves either more clicking or dragging.

Clumsy UI is a birthmark of old and indie games. If such a game struggles to keep on par with modern games, it absolutely must haveĀ as easy, smooth, ergonomic and user-friendly UI as possible, cutting off all the fiddling, clicking and typing. Forcing players to do dozens of clicks where just one click would be enough is plain stupid (i'm looking at you, trading window). Drag-and-drop working selectively depending on what tab is open is clearly a design or coding flaw.

"Smooth, ergonomic....UI..." -- doesn't that rather depend on playing style? One man's erg is another's poisson.

I am not denying that there are design and coding flaws in Ryzom, but there is clearly only a very small team of coders behind the game, and I'd rather have more content than minor fixes to the UI. Are you saying that new players are so shallow that a minor aspect of the UI will affect whether they play the game or not? If so, that is an indictment of modern gamers, not of the game.

Unless you have studied the code you don't know whether this is easy to do or a PITA. If you have studied (and understood) the code, please volunteer to help. :)

The drag-n-drop really comes into its own if you play on a touch screen - on an iPad or similar the interface is getting clunky.
