I think your statement: "Madness doing nothing" if caster is not attacked, it's a bit too generic.

First you have to consider that system.info doesn't show much about the combat, in general (it doesn't tells you if you get slashed, pierced or smashed, in example). Maybe too simple info for a mmorpg.

I think you should give more tests about madness. It's possible it can be bugged with some animals, but in general it works even if you are not directly attacked by the target.

One example: go to Prime Roots and use a madness against a vorax, that is not attacking you but someone else. Often it can go feared by it's fear.

It's possible you are right, but actually for the many times i used it, even when not targeted, i think it's a bit too early to assume that.

For sure, a more detailed combat messages in system.info would help a lot.

Last thing: linked afflictions cycles while in progression and it's possible a single cycle miss the hit, but if success rate is high, don't miss every hits.

I will use it to look at languages a bit, they are sort of a hobby. The other case is I often leave client running and go do something else. When I come back I usually don't want to scroll back and read what was said. Drop a line in TEAM upon leaving, one on return and parser can just show me what I've missed when I do want to catch up.

Maybe I will add damage parser at some point. Not particularly interested but if core is set it could be done fairly easily.]]>

To be honest, the marauders have a little less service than the others on the resurrection in terms of gameplay. Zinuakeen don't give any option to reduce DP. For that, you have to find a TP kami or kara and buy something at Jena or Ma Duk (so weird...).

"The warriors who offer unique rewards", it would be the maraud bosses and their armors? They offer them to whoever defeats them... Players who were marauders before the merger are also entitled to a unique title; but having unique titles can be done in other ways, without being a marauder.
The PvP dress option seems more valid. Not a big deal !]]>

Gear wise however.. I think its totally fine for people to bring their own gear.

At the 2020 Atys Tournament everyone was given the same gear and it wasnt fun because everyone had the same weakness armor and jool wise.

It wasnt even a melee battle most times. In the grand final (2020 Tournament) between Nightviper and myself, I ran at him with an axe and he just threw 2 double 250/250 shockwaves at me like a softball and took me down in seconds. (smart move by him.) but he only did that because everyone had the same holes in their jools.

With poeple bringing their own gear however you get the different jools (DLP, DFL etc) you also get different armor protections (slash peirce smash) and overall a better 'combat' between players.

I absolutely agree. It only took me a few seconds of looking at the equipment we were issued and I knew that Shock would win the tournament. PvP in Ryzom takes place off the battlefield for the most part. Replacing that preparation with crappy gear has no value.

I've been seeing discussions around the format for ages, I've had them myself. Just let people do what they want. Consumable gone except for ammo and the rest should be allowed.

What needs to change is the chatter around "but no one has anything to lose". But in PvP everyone has something to lose. The fun and the victory. Therefore, the attitude should change, not the punishment for a lost battle or the price for victory.

By far the most players I've brought into PvP didn't want that. Because they didn't want to be laughed at or generally disrespected. Or because they thought they couldn't. Or because they didn't want beef (not the player). Why was that? Because that's what you could observe, at all times.

So you better think about what you can do so that there are more participants, no matter what their skill level is. If the 10 skilled PvP players don't like it, take 20 beginners who have fun with it. Educate. Train. Wonder.

The format brings variety and not salvation.]]>

A. Q160/Q210 or Q260 Choice Named (mini-boss) mats (any region - these only spwan after a server restart, these are not the normal named ones ((ie: Dolak - which is of Excell Q)) that respawn every 50 minutes.

B. Q259 Fine Kirney mats (any amount will do, beggers cannot be choser) - these are the guards for the Q270 Kirney boss and are also located in Demon's Lap.

C. Excellent Corrupt Igara Skins from Pei-Ruz's Camp in Haven of Purity (these mats are obtainable manly through team effort to get NPC points for LA).

Agreed. But I was referring to the MMO that received a Best Story Award. With an interesting and engaging story, that's not just the usual bad anarchists vs goodie-two-shoes MMO fare.
Some want to take part in an interactive movie, some like to take part in a world that they can make their own, many are in-between. For the less narrative-driven/more sandbox gamers, the story is of little interest and not really engaging no matter how many awars other people give it. In fact, it can be seen as distracting. 

IMO, Ryzom is nice in that it has enough lore and RP events to have some appeal to the RPg players while still being low-key enough on the story to satisfy the rpG players. You won't satisfy everyone, of course, so I think that in the end it all boils down to what you are looking for in a game.

In that regard, Ryzom is very much a niche game. And for those of us with non-mainstream tastes, it's nice having a game that is a bit more accomodating even if that means it does not excel in the things that normal peopel look for in a game. That does pose a bit of a marketing problem though :/]]>

1. I walked thru PR and chose my path carefully enough and was patient enough to sneak by all the mobs w/o being hit. One of our HOs back in the day used to take a Level 20 alt toon on a world tour about once every 3 months

2. If I can remember correctly, parry w/o boosts or special items

Base Toon: 250
Staff & Shield: +20 +30
NPC Armor: +24

With that level gear you can stand in front of a mob and take hits but many of them will be no damage. You can actually do more damage to yourself with HP credits by attacking the mob, then just standing there.

3. Another way of looking at it I will use an example for. Back many years ago, we decided we wanted to see just how successful we could be digging sups, figuring out the seasons, and refill times, etc. We got very good at it.... tho it kinda made it boring.

As you know many sup spots have aggro on or close to the spots. And wanting to avoid killing the last one, when sup time was coming. So in our team of three, two were in dig gear and I would taunt the last mob(s) around in circles while they dug out the sups .... Yes, I'd get hit but, between running and the high parry, the HP regen rate was higher than the damage rate. When they were done harvesting the sups, I'd still be at or v. worst case, very near the 6700 or whatever HP I started with.

I try to explore how game design processes function on games that are developed in the open and how collaboration on a project might serve an educational purpose. I believe I first came into contact with open-source games in my early secondary school days, when I was searching for free games on the internet to play on our old and slow Mac computer. SuperTuxKart is one of the games that still has a special place in my heart. To this day, it is a free and open-source game that receives a good portion of attention and is in active development. The open-source gaming community was also the place where I took my first steps in my game design career. An environment that provides you with free access to source code and assets, techniques and tutorials. One that actively encourages people to become contributors and joining a community. For me that was the best insight into how game development works and all the aspects it consists of I could ever get. Eventually, even though not really intended, years later I found my way back to the art of design and did my studies in the field of game design.
I am still lurking around in many of the open-source communities I once actively contributed to and maybe I will have time at hand to become more engaged in some of them. But over my whole engineering journey free and open-source software along with its development played a big role in my personal growth.

Now back to topic. Design and development of open-source games looks different compared to how it is generally done in the industry. Note that I would like to differentiate between game design and game development. While game development is often used as an umbrella term for all the specialized fields that the creation of a video game requires, design however is focusing onto the ruleset and mechanics as well as the balancing and the motivation design. The open-source games community as I experienced it is often more driven by the development aspect. Combined with other differences e.g. of having no fixed deadlines or compulsory feature requests, the design process is quite interesting and unique. The feedback loop tends to be more direct, the community as a collective can drive a project and participate in shaping the result.
Besides, actively developing on a game project in the open is a whole different experience. The motivation on working on a project in your spare time can range from fun-seeking to the eager of learning new things. I want to explore this kind of development deeper and maybe shape the future of free and open-source game development a little by giving back some design knowledge I have learned back into the communities (eh, every student dreams big, right?).

So for now, I am in the need of data. Because researching something I only halfway understand will not work here. That is why I prepared a survey with questions about yourpersonal experience with open-source game development, the projects you are involved in and the hierarchical structures under which they are developed. It consists of:

Oh. My. God. The memories! This is some very impressive stuff kaetemi, do you happen to know why the ring was originally removed? I never understood why it had to be "recreated" with other tools like the Scenographic Editor or refactored into the idea of Pocket Worlds since it was already there and running years and years ago.

Ring is a long work to fix it. Happy to see Kaetemi working on.

But at begin, ring server has never worked well. People who use them a lot like me know how unstable are. Lot of player stuck on ring, crashs without any way to reconnect event in main land. It's why we have deactivated it until someone have time to fix it.


Scenographic Editor and pocket worlds are very different from Ring. It's not in the goal to recreate the ring.

Scenographic Editor are now the tool used to add elements in a zone like on Nexus. It's much powerful than ring since we can place in all axes (x, y, z), rotate them and scale them.

Pocket worlds are also different, the goal is have instances in game, not outside the game. Guild islands are a pocket world. So it's used for internal projects.

These projects are at first for the leveldesigners, and i hope, will be released to players.]]>

I did all melee years ago most solo without a heal alt (but not all I had an alt sometimes and even once in a while a friend)

Normally I would do plants like ppl have said before then in the end move to horncers in loria and/or kinchers in void.

Use enchants when you can I remember my fastest skill I ever lvled (in my mind it took me just couple of days but will have been longer with all the slacking) was staves by kind of cheating with this bad boyps. this was a merge pressie so not cheating but yeah the sap load on this bad boy meant I hit a horncer, kincher once then run and enchant to death in no time. My exact setup I forgot but yeah this thing got me trough mastering it verry quickly]]>

First off, the materials amounts are different from the list in the first post. This is probably due to the missions overhaul done during patch 3.5.0, aka JY 2603 patch. They now may more, but also ask for more items.

So anyway, here is the updated BOM (bill of materials):
  • 8 MA MQ (Rilonus) pants + 8 MA MQ (Rilonus) vests
  • 40 LA MQ (Hobenus) vests
  • 56 LA MQ (Hobenus) sleeves:
  • 1 MA MQ (Rilonus) vest + 1 MA MQ (Rilonus) pants
(here the amounts are the same as previously, but the timer has been lengthened from 1 minute to 16)



Miscellaneous:

After completing the 4 prerequisite missions, you start the rite by talking to the barman in Pyr, and only after you are sent to the Water Breakers chief.

The actual rite only starts at (mid?)night, as hinted by the last item in the text:


So, go to Northlake Farm, and wait until it's 12am. Then and only then will the NPC talk to you. You may have to enter/exit the Farm several times to trigger his dialogue, this is an old problem.

The other two NPCs that you visit will trigger easily.

Finally, here is a durability comparison on items made with fine generic materials. Top is prior to rite, bottom is after the rite:
