As I understand it, however, the regular spawns have their aggro characteristics built into the code, unlike creatures spawned by the Event Team whose aggro characteristics are subject to modification. That would mean that this change would need to go into a server patch, something that one does not do without trepidation. Given that Ryzom Core and Ryzom Forge exist, however, it might be do-able now.]]>

after several days of imprisonment there was a glimmer of hope. the brave homin known as Sandmoi beat all the odds and fought bravely and selflessly to reach our place of captivity. after some time and effort trying to brake the bonds that held us it had become clear that we were only putting our would be savor in more danger. it was a sad moment when both ros and I realized that it wasn't right to put another homin in danger while trying to brake the bonds that held us.

we knew that it wouldn't take long for more marauders to show up, with a heavy heart we told our rescuer that while we wish we could escape, it wasn't proper to allow her to be killed simply because our bonds could not be broken. while she didn't want to abandon us, she could clearly see that soon she would be vastly outnumbered. after a quick and sad farewell and a vow to return, our heroine departed us.

as ros and myself sat watching our dear friend evade the countless guards and the few marauders that were here, we considered our fate before us. at least we knew that our misfortune was known beyond the camp we found ourselves in. we spoke quietly of the things we had hopped to do, it was clear now that there were only two ways out, payment of the ransom or death. we now found ourselves more worried then before.

suddenly ros cheers getting my attention. when i look at what she's looking at i get a surge of hope that perhaps now we can be rescued. our previous heroine has returned with a group, suddenly we see friends we've known for ages here to try to help save us. as we watch the fighting one by one those here to save us are getting closer to us.

one by one each of the hero's attempt to brake our bonds. first sandmoi tries a second time to free us, and there's no give in the bonds that hold us. next ingfarah tried to brake our bonds, they are just too strong. one by one each of our hero's take turns trying. after each have tried, it's clear that this will not be a rescue once again. me and ros tell our would be liberators that while we are very grateful for the attempt to save us we don't want them to risk themselves needlessly, it's clear that no amount of homins will be able to brake the bonds that hold us.

after watching our friends depart this evil place we know our chances of getting out alive are very slim. we sit in silence and watch the world around us carry on.

I was inclined to intervene in this 'discussion', until I realised that it is primarily about static clients.

Not at all. This thread promotes some community resources, which include documentation for both statically and dynamically linked clients. Then it was hijacked by some people who thinks one and only one almighty individual is better than everyone else.

If you have something to add to the documentation, feel free to do so. It's a wiki, everyone can contribute. People are also welcomed to talk on the #ryzomforge irc channel on freenode. There, you can meet a lot of people contributing to Ryzom in many different ways.]]>

limited storage options have lead to other methods being used, and some of those methods are under fire for being "bugged" for over 9 years, after 9 years, it's very hard to call it a bug, bug's get fixed, features are not fixed because they aren't broken.

i'm posting today here to help promote the bulk upgrade idea once again, because based on recent actions it's only again proving that larger storage options are needed.

some people want to say it's only going to promote hoarding, regardless of this upgrade option hoarding will always be a possibility.

here's a couple things that would be helpful:
less alt's thus less server load from repeated log-in and log-out.
less individual database files for the server to keep track of and save

many players have put in alot of work on subb'ed alts, they're not likely to do away with them simply because of this upgrade, i know i would not.

other games have given this option to the player base, some use in-game money to get the upgrade, others have charged a one time cash fee, but in both cases it was used only by a portion of the game's player base, and they also were able to promote something that many other games did not offer.

it's very clear that storage is an issue with the player base, some claim it's fine the way it is, and for those players the option would not be used; for others it's not fine the way it is and they would be happy to have an option to improve things in their case.

the option doesn't have to be used by those that are happy with the current status-quo, but would be very welcomed by those that are not happy with the status-quo.

this would also reduce the use of merchant based storage workarounds, which i'm sure keeping that database smaller would improve the server load (the merchant lists are kept loaded and running on the server every day 24 hours a day, where as the player's apt only is active while the player is online in game, with a guild hall it would be only if there's at least one member of that guild online.)

i'll stop here for bit and think and dwell on this for more time while i wait to see if we get what we're asking for... i've vowed to keep this alive untill it's given, after two years it should be clear that i mean to keep my word :)]]>

there's a mis-match in the server/client codes that is subject to use by those that know basic features of ALL OS's since the days of the first unix systems. i'll not go into this here, it's not the place for it, but anyone with a little time doing any editing of text know the keyboard shortcuts to do it. the server allows 99999%, it's wrote in the code that way, the client is mis-matched and only allows 9999%, it's been reported in the past by several players, and has not been fixed, other "bugs" like this one that have not been fixed over the years have become "undocumented features" (is a direct quote of a CSR describing these long unfixed bug's)

i don't want to get off topic, but would like to say that some of these "undocumented features" lead people to make false claims, they do this without proper knowledge of things that have always been intended, some of these are for RP use and/or events.

anyway, there's no harm to the market system for anyone to use the higher sale price, if a homin is willing to knowingly buy something so expensive, they are making a choice to do so, as i'm sure no one is there in real life with a gun forcing them to do so.

(this post as well as other's i'm working on are related to some slightly extream punishments for what's been considered another of the "undocumented features" in the past.)

also like to say sorry for my slightly off-topic wandering, sometimes i tend to do that.

Dear Ser Erminantius,

First my congratulations to your success in capturing a kitin of the depths. I would like to make a few proposals concerning feeding and caretaking for the creature.

My sister Diwu and me are participating in the task of providing appropriate food for the captured kitin. We experienced arma meat, from ferocious armas, usually found northeast of Paramount Stock in the witherings, to be quite effective and nurturing. Another advantage is that this is a kind of herbivores which can be hunted quite fast, even alone or in a small team. Larger creatures like ploderos, shalah, or madakam require ways more time and cause more equipment attrittion, and are close to impossible alone and hard in a small team.

To provide some data: strength level of the creature is 192, food yield per kill was 4-16 pieces of meat. After 20-30 pieces of meat the nurturing status of the kitin changes, e.g. from "it hasn't had much food recently, it is getting angry" to "It had a snack not too long ago, but that seems to have made it want more".

I would suggest that we collect data of strength level, average yield, and satiating effect of all kinds of meat that can be given to the kitin.

Further on, I consider the location of the captured creature in the observation camp Falls of the Two Totems not ideal. For homins who are not so seasoned as fighters and mages, it is fairly dangerous and difficult to cross Folly Plain and reach the location. I can imagine, additionally, that it is not easy for the scientists observing and studying the creature to get there. Not all excellent academics are excellent warriors in addition.

Beneath that the narrow cage seems somewhat inappropriate for a creature of that kind used to cross large distances and to move a lot. This unnatural enclosure may also adversely influence the results of studying the kitin.

I would therefore suggest to ponder the following proposal:

An enclosure for the kitin may be built in Majestic Garden, either south of Yrkanis near the cliff, or similarly south of Avalae, west of Davae, or northwest of Natae. The kitin will be transported to its new home once it is ready. The first task may require construction materials to be harvested according to construction plans of royal architects and zoologists, the second possibly materials for a carriage, and the participation of homins to keep the creature safe and sleeping during all of the transport.

first off we would like to apologize for the longer wait between updates. in order to provide you with several fragments at one time we must take slightly more time to get those for you. we have nine new fragments for you, and we're still hard at work with finding the order to them so we can put together the larger story hidden within for all homins of atys to read and know. our newest fragment are: "...now..." though we in government and the wise men of our time all agree that these so called "fragments of lost scrolls" are not what some would like to claim them to be, still there are homins actively following the reports. we feel they are not any code, they hold no deeper meaning or secret history as the group suggests they do. for all anyone knows they are the drawings of children, or the scribblings of a homin that's gone mad. they could be nothing more then a scary story once shared with small children. our biggest fear is that there is no secret to them at all, and everything claimed by the group working on them is a work of fiction. perhaps they are making the "story of the scrolls" up as they go to serve their own needs, and there is in fact no truth to the scrolls. we feel that homins should not continue to support this group or their work. there is nothing to gain from their work, and it's taking away from the attention of far more important issues.]]>

So it's pretty good for UDP.

Ryzom does try to reconnect as long as possible. If anything, then it does not know when to give up (ie, FS lost, no recovery)

Also, if you try to login it tells you are already logged, it should kick you out in 30sec and allow relog.]]>

Ravenh and Lessah headed back to the vendor to purchase Lessah a herbal sandwich and an Izam
quiche. While Lessah masticated, Ravenh explained the next adventure.

Ravenh pulled out his map from his backpack and laid it on the bench they were sitting on, "Here
is where the those men were talking about. 'Prime Roots' or something. They said the resources
we could get from there were worth a fortune." He looked up at her with excited eyes, "We'll
come back and get an apartment better than your old one." He stared at her waiting for her
response as if he just solved all the world's problems.

Lessah smiled at Ravenh, so impressed with his eagerness to help. And did he really just imply
that they'd get an apartment together? That wasn't what Ravenh really said, but hey, that's what
she wanted it to sound like, so that's what it sounded like. She stared back at him a moment,
taking in his facial features. He was so handsome, and he also had that manly, rugged look about
him that she liked too. Suddenly the loss of her apartment felt like a real perk! Lessah had been
lost in thought for so long that she nearly forgot what Ravenh was showing her. She blinked a
few times then looked down at the map and paused while she caught up. "Hmmm...I think I
recognize the area but I've never gone digging there. I guess we'll need to get pick axes" she
said before searching their bags to see if they even had enough dappers to purchase them.

Ravenh tucked the map away and reached for her hand, "Come, I know a guy that can help us out
with those picks." He lead Lessah over to the tool vendor, Frerni Rosidera. After several minutes
of Lessah examining the picks, deciding this one had a splintery handle and that one just wasn't
shiny enough, and Ravenh sighing a lot but keeping his cool for her sake, they managed to decide
on two they could use. Frerni announced the price for the two picks, "WHAT?!?" Ravenh yelled,
then immediately clearing his throat, "Oh, yes.. I see... one moment." He corrected in a lower tone,
not really wanting any repeat occurrances from before. He reached into his pouch, knowing he
didn't have enough dappers for the purchase, "Let me count." he said, stalling, hoping at any
moment Lessah would look away so he could try to haggle and not hurt his pride with Lessah in the
process, "Isn't that one of those hairdressers over there, Lessah?"

Lessah smoothed down her hair that was still in a neat pony tail. "What...you don't like my hair?"
she questioned, before glancing over at the hairdressers. It was there that she noticed a small
baby Yubo, walking around like it was lost. "Awwww" lessah cooed as she skipped over to it.
She picked up the Yubo and pet it while talking to it like it was a baby. "Are you lost little one?
Here, let me put you back with your family so that you don't get walked on." Lessah walked over
to a nearby gate and showed the Yubo to a guard who leaned away from it, as though it were
diseased or dangerous. Lessah laughed, "it's just a baby" she said as she placed the Yubo
several feet away from the gate. Feeling as though she'd made a difference today, she turned
around and skipped back to Ravenh. It was a good thing Lessah left quickly, for moments after,
she would have witnessed a Javing swooping down and snatching the baby Yubo away.

Ravenh took the opportunity of Lessah's distraction and haggled with Frerni, finally agreeing to

smiled, holding the picks up, "Got 'em" trying to act like he could have afforded them all along.
"Where are you two going to gather resources?" Frerni interrupted, curious as to if these two
apparent novices even knew where to go. Ravenh turned with his chest puffed out, "Prime Roots,
of course." His voice was a bit loud and it donned on him that he was letting their secret location
out of the bag to anyone that could hear. He leaned against the counter, overconfidently, "That's
where the good stuff is." He stated as if he knew. The vendor just eyed them both, "Hope to see
you both back in one piece then." He bagan cleaning off his counter and not really paying any
more attention to them. Ravenh, however, got a little offended at the idea that they were in over
their heads, "What did that mean? I'll have you know that I'm quite the capable...." Ravenh's
voice getting more and more defensive with each word. Lessah wrapped her arm around Ravenh's
and smiled at the vendor, "We'll be careful." tugging on Ravenh to leave.

Frerni rolled his eyes and directed his gaze to Lessah. "Good, I hope you also have something to
carry all of those materials. Most materials aren't worth much unless they are sold in bulk."
Lessah wasn't sure if the vendor really knew what he was talking about, after all he was a tool
vendor not a material vendor, or a master digger for that matter. Still...more materials would
result in more dappers. After a moments thought, Lessah suddenly squeezed Ravenh and squealed
into his ear "My Moose! Let's bring Moose. He likes walks and he can carry a lot more than we
can! Come on, let's go to the stables" she shouted before running in the wrong direction.

Ravenh watched Lessah run off in the wrong direction and sighed, glancing over at Frerni who
was not only laughing but shaking his head in disbelief. Ravenh huffed then chased after Lessah,
eventually catching up to her and correcting her directional mistake. They finally make it to the
stables, the whole way Ravenh heard about how fond of Moose, Lessah is and what a good
Mektoub he is. The way Lessah spoke of it, you'd think it was a person.

Lessah bounced on the spot as Varo opened the door to let Moose out. He finally stormed out of
the stables, apparently so excited to see Lessah that he knocked over Varo and several bags of
hay that were neaty stacked. Moose rubbed up against Lessah, while using its long trunk to
inspect Ravenh. Moose wasn't shy. His trunk moved quickly from Ravenh's hands, to his genital
region, then into a bag that Ravenh was holding. Lessah giggled as she watched Moose greet
Ravenh. "I'm just going to grab a few things to saddle up Moose" she said as she pet the
Mektoub's head.

Ravenh danced around, trying to avoid the Mektoub's trunk, swatting at it, but missing, "Is he
gonna act like this the whole time?" He asked, not realizing she had stepped away. Ravenh finally
got angry and pointed at the Mektoub, "NO!!!" He yelled. Moose stared at Ravenh a moment,
blinking, then grabbing a hold of his finger with his trunk. Ravenh quickly jerked his finger away,
wiping it off on his pants. The Mektoub now thought Ravenh was just playing and jumped at him,
knocking Ravenh down to the ground, only to persue him, pinning him to the ground, inspecting him
all over with his trunk, leaving slime trails all over Ravenh. Lessah returned in time to see this
sight.

Lessah collected all that she needed from Moose's stable and turned around to see Ravenh pinned
to the ground. "Awww. He likes you!" she laughed. Moose then noticed that Lessah was holding
his saddle and knew an adventure awaited. He quickly released Ravenh and made his way over to
Lessah. As Lessah saddled Moose up, his trunk roamed over Lessah's hair, knocking off her
diadem in the process. Ravenh stood up and dusted himself off. "Are we ready?" he asked
impatiently. Lessah laughs and nods, then hands the reins to Ravenh. She then loops her arm
around Ravenh's, and smiles. "Lead us to our next Adventure!" she says happily.]]>

I have no idea how Ryzom is packaged for Ubuntu, and therefore, if you have troubles using it, I can recommend you to use rsync instead.
Ubuntu package installs ryzom under /opt/ryzom with /opt/ryzom/ryzom.sh as launcher script. Launcher pulls/updates ryzom files located in $HOME/.ryzom (note the dot). Client app is under /opt/ryzom/ryzom_client which is distributed and updated by package manager.

Ryzom ubuntu ppa seems to be ppa:ryzom-isv/ppa. Using client from rsync works, but its 32bit binary.]]>

The Matis have done it, they've captured a Kitin of the depths. I still can’t believe it myself, that such a beastly, dangerous creature can be trapped - but they did it. I was there among them when it was captured, along with the Royal Kitinologist and other homins in Falls of the Two Totems.

The purpose of this risky undertaking is to study the creature and learn from it, so that in the future we may be able to fight Kitins more effectively. But I have doubts. The Matis have a long history of experiments ending in fiasco - one example of such grand and horrible schemes are The Ruins of Silan. I remember the days of my training with Sterga Halma, “..I think that the best method for beating the enemy, is to first get to know them. If we could analyse some samples, we could find an effective way of eradicating them…” he said, and after he tried to get me to betray the Rangers and their work. Back then we were talking about plants, and everyone knows how that fiasco ended.

The Matis have always been dreaming grand matissian dreams; obsessed with their legacy and past glory, obsessed with genetic mutations both marvelous and horrible. They are prideful people and it is their arrogant superiority that in the end makes them dangerous. It surprised me, the level of support noted at the event by the peoples. But I was more surprised that no official Ranger was asked to help with the task, given that Rangers have been studying Kitins for eons since the First Great Swarming.

But I can understand why they would not ask Rangers to assist. What knowledge the Rangers may have, whatever advantage they may have over combating Kitins, it is clear they are not yet ready to share it, nor willing to teach one nation so that they gain an advantage over the other. I can’t help but wonder if the Matis will share their discoveries with the other nations or hold whatever advantages they may gain from their Kitin studies for their own agenda. I wish I could be reassured that they will, but I can’t help shake the feeling, the fear, that it will become another Matis disaster.

However, I am glad I was present at the event. It allowed me the opportunity to put my new learned skills to the test. I've earned quite a few titles as my skills advance in melee, Light Armswoman, Heavy Armswoman, Close Fighter, and even Gunfighter. I’m also a Priestess and Elementalist. Simply swinging a weapon isn't enough, there are other tactical advantages that come into play when trekking, training in a party, or when training Solo also.

Trekking for example - when in a trek across the land there are rules to guarantee the survival of everyone in the party. The number one rule is “if you don’t have a master skill, you heal,” and it doesn't matter in what capacity every bit of heals helps the party. Never pass the guide, let them lead and stay behind them at all times - this will prevent running into dangerous animals. If the group is attacked heal, if you are attacked don’t run, stand still, give the tank the chance to taunt the animal away from you, and for the healers to heal you - going off and running away from group, or, running toward other homins while dragging aggro will put everyone at risk. And the second most important rule “do not loot unless told to do so,” quartering during a trek can respawn the animal, much worst, respawn a full pack or mob on the party that can get everyone kill.

When training Solo - It isn't enough to equip a weapon and wear boosted gear, one also needs to know its opponent, and know what type of weapon to use against them. The flora and fauna of Atys is smart and in the mainland knowing when to use slashing, smashing, or piercing weapons on what is important.

For example; I've learned plants are magical so using heavy armor while combating them doesn't offer protection like one would think - unless one is fighting Cratchas because they have a poison as well as a piercing attack - instead jewelry takes a greater role as it provides max protection against magical attacks. Stingas for example do cold and root damage. So, I can fight Stingas naked and still be protected wearing jewels with max cold protection - but I prefer to use light armor with +2 dodge. Now, as far as a weapon, Stingas have 25% protection to piercing and smashing weapons, but 0% protection to slashing weapons. I made the mistake thinking a two-hand weapon will slice through Stingas like knife to butter, I was wrong. Stingas tend to evade and dodge two-hand weapons, two-hand weapons are poor against dodging targets - but one-hand weapons are better at hitting dodging opponents ((two-hand weapons are better at hitting parrying opponents)), I learned.

This is only an example of the knowledge I've gained while training melee; a good fighter is a thinking one, one that can outsmart opponents in combat but also work well in a party. A thinking fighter makes good use of auras. In the mainland, stanzas like melee protection aura (MPA) and invulnerability are life savers. A fighter needs taunt stanza, not only to pull a single target from a mob, but also helps take the aggro from the healer, or from another fighter who’s too badly hurt. Sometimes, using invulnerability (invul), will allow me enough time for a healer to revive someone from the party. Other times I use melee protection aura (MPA), and those near me also benefit from this aura when I use it. A good fighter not only keeps the mob from the mags and healer but also knows when to help heal teammates. Even the most devoted melee fighters study magic, at the very least healing magic to revive (Rez) friends.

Many of these tactics were practiced not only by me, but by other homins during the run from Yrkanis to Falls of the Two Totems. We encounter quite a few violent animals on the roads, Gingos, Torbaks, Javings, Cutlers, and even Gibais. But it was during the taunting of the Kitin from the depths that group tactics became more evident. And with good teamwork they captured the beastly creature successfully.]]>

Or find out during event 2 for instance. Some ppl might just wanna show up for the pvp while others just for the swimming for instance.
So while it's alot harder for 1 person since he needs to check all names for each event turning up and to add new names (and probably explain everything over and over again => will need a basic 3 language explain macro for around that explains atyslympics basics not the event since each event will be different).
I was thinking of using a simple google docs spreadsheet when a new player wants to take part in event he gets added to list gets 0 points for all previous events and then he's inscribed. Since we where thinking about points for first 3 in the event and atleast some points to show up each time.
With that list I'm sure we can make an easy way to post names + points each week on forums and change it after each event.]]>

i would consider this a high priority bug that should be looked into, and sure the "fix" is to log your toon in on a windows based machine and buy the tool crafting stanza's, but that's not a fix it's a poor workaround that some can't do.]]>

The Syndicates jealously guarded this new, frail and curious sister. She still had many questions and her elders answered them with great patience and attention. They hoped that her state would be permanent. What a surprise they had had when the prediction was made. The guild leader had dreamt this disturbing vision a few days before, the one in which a known enemy would take the colors of their clan. Who would have thought she would be the guardian of the gates of Fair Haven herself? Drezar spoke of this dream to Virg, Seralee and Bucshotz. They had all said it must be just a strange dream with a realistic outlook. However, this thought disturbed the guild leader long enough to concentrate raids in Tryker territory at least for a while.

It was when Virg locked eyes with a Cybele he had stunned earlier he realized that the dream was not random. He could see the fear in the face of the Guardian, something that had never occurred. The young homina was looking nervously around her with a total lack of understanding written on her face. He had hitten the back of her head so hard she had fainted. She was now lost, alone in the lion's mouth and Virg realized it...

He called Bucshotz and both Tryker followed the amnesiac who had fled the battle. She had decided that the situation was too dangerous for her and that it was better to slip away. They had no trouble finding the poor homine wandering alone on the beach. Virg asked Bucshotz to trust him and let him talk to her.

-Bucshotz: This may be a trap.
-Virg: No, believe me ... I know what I saw.

Virg understood Cybele was not her usual self. If he could only influence her a bit ... he might be able to take advantage of this situation. He spent a long time talking to her and what she told him confirmed what he thought. She couldn’t remember anything from her past. Even her speech was a bit odd. She had forgotten everything: Trykers, religions, nations, his family and even her own name...

Bucshotz left Virg and Cybele to bring news the others. Drezar's eyes widened upon hearing it and he ordered his soldiers to remain silent, waiting to find the facts by himself. Virg brought the Tryker who now wore his marauder armor and had her weapons in hand.

-Virg: Look ... I know it's difficult ... but you have to trust me ... The Syndicates are your family and we have to fight today to defend our cause to all ... Will you lend me your strength? We all need you. Then we will have the time to teach you your past and everything you need to know.

Cyble nodded and followed this homin with a sweet and reassuring voice.

-Virg: Are you afraid?

The trykette nodded and the marauder smiled tenderly to her.

-Virg: Almost the whole clan met today, we will protect you and we will be victorious. You'll never be alone anymore...

Cybele advanced timidly, fully plated, weapons in hand. On seeing her, Seralee smirked: Grizabella…where were you my sweet child...

-Cybèle: Griza ... bella? How awful ... I didn’t even remember my own name ...

Jazzy, who had lost sight of his life partner since the beginning of the fight tried to reason her. The hostile and alien being who was inside his Cybele broke his heart and he tried to understand what could have happened to her. The young homina didn’t recognize him, neither he nor the others. Still, he refused to take is weapon and hurt his love; quietly Grizabella let herself become possessed by pure adrenaline.

Grizabella rushed forth and pierced Jazzy's armor.]]>
