But the experience is shallow, because every aspect in Ryzom is implemented better in other games I remember
– altough I have to admit that no game shares the unique collection of Ryzom which makes it it's own experience you can enjoy for some time.

So what does Ryzom need for a deeper experience and long-term enjoyment?
Something which attracts creative minds with a lot of experience from other MOMRPGs.

Add more hair-styles - like front/rear view. And seriously: add more colours (it's just a huge shift and brightness, really!).
Also add more tatoo choices (just an overlay), colours and overlapable parts that create a mixed texture based on numeric parameters.

In some games you can spend hours on hours just to create your character - even free to play ones like "Second Life", "Shaya" or other free games I could play years ago when I was still a newbie "default-Windows user".

But, in this game, character creating is mostly hair and tattoo – here should it improve first (and everything really difficult is already done).

2.
Extend the Stanza-system for spells.
In "Oblivion" and "Skyrim" you can adjust the range, damage, AOE, cast/cooldown –everything of 10+ stats– freely after some archivements.

During the tutorial it is just a matter of maxing the DPS of a spell, have 3 different for (initiation + follow-ups) and close-range for tougher creeps.

All the Stanzas, options and credits here give little room for individuality.

I am now at Tryker's Main-Land and bored a bit.
– I see the same creeps, still have to just-run 2+2 minutes for quests.
– Foraging or hack&slash through mobs is still mostly waiting in front of the screen.
– The tutorials items I got ruin any hope of crafting something better myself.
– I see a lot of copy+paste work, NPCs which wear player outfits and have some generic-player-faces.
– Whater in which I cannot dive for pearls, walk-ways under which I cannot swim through, cliffs from which I cannot jump into water.

The thing I enjoy are other players to chat and beef-up the experience, but this is nothing Ryzom itself contributes to the game, but the players.
– Also, I figured it even more difficult to form parties on the main land than it is to form then on Tutorial-Island.

But there is a quick fix:
In oblivion, you could level everything individually – swords, daggers, each spell (here: each Stanza which is part of it).

If you can approach 100% Sap-to-DMG efficiency, but never reach it …
… if you can level your skill against each mob-type, once by super-type and once by sub-type (skill ratios multipled) …
… if you could level an item's super-type and the individual item.

It wouldn't be more complicated than implementing an inventory with a number how many items you have.
But it would add a nice feature to the game.

EDIT:
Wouldn't you like it if you could change the colour, split count, visual speed, flight pattern (arc, zick-zack), etc of a magic projectile just like you can modify your character? Or the animation of your meele-character?]]>

Context 1 clearly is "action"

However, contexts 2-4 look to me as if they are all the same -- "conversation".

So what about H?
Context 1 = action > H = a movement key (no idea which one) - makes sense.
Context 2-4 = conversation?

It would seem very strange to me if contexts 1-4 were different things for different keys. I think that may have been why I had a hard time understanding "context."


Context For me --
use action bar 3 = crafting.
Use action bar 8 - high power healing and casting
Use action bar 10 - hitting (including conditionals0
Use action bar 1 Low power healing and zapping (used to preserve hp and sap when high levels are not needed).
Action bar 2 4 5 6 7 -- Digging in the five continents.

I really have no need to switch suddenly from any of these contexts to any other.

In the end, I think we play in drastically different ways, and that's OK.

P.S. Yes, programming the keys using something other than the built in macros is getting close to violating the ToS. However, if you are still using only yourself to control your toon (even if slightly easier), I don't think you would get nuked. The ToS is against automation. However, I am not a CSR nor do I play one on TV.]]>

Ring has been running on a separate server. Unless they find a way to host these "pocket worlds" on Atys or test server, this will require a new server. It's a money sink. Remember, Ring was shut down, because Winch Gate wanted to cut off expenses. Another money sink is what Ryzom needs now, absolutely. Why not, let's copy Nevrax' mistakes. Instead of saving subscription money for future payments, outsourcing some coding or artistic work, hiring a skilled programmer or texture artist, or launching advertising campaign let's run a new server, which will be ignored by 90% of population, as we all know from previous experience.

Not stopping by that, let's also devote developer's time to working on this project, instead of finishing existing content, iterating on UI changes or picking up one of the proposals that either were accepted years ago, or being discussed on these forums over and over again. Great idea.]]>

Petit surprise la version précédente que j'avais (2.1.0) faisait un peu moins de 40Méga, et la nouvelle tourne autour de 7 giga. J'aimerai bien comprendre du coup c'est quoi cette notion de client Statique ?

40 Mo doit être la taille du client sans les données je pense :) Les données ont toujours pris autant notamment à cause du nombre de textures :p

"static" (statique) veut juste dire que que la plupart des dépendances, des drivers NeL, etc... sont tous embarqué dans un seul fichier. C'est en général la méthode classique de distribution des applications sous OS X pour réduire leur taille.

Dans la liste des clients, c'est aussi pour les différencier des clients "steam" qui eux utilisent quelques spécificités de Steam (le patch est désactivé notamment car il est géré par Steam).]]>

A: To be a translator? No, no constraint since the translations aren't done in game except in emergency cases, translators usually have several days to translate and fix a text. And where there are several peoples for the same language, it allows for taking turns
Translations are mostly translations for official announcements and new content in game created with Ark. There are also translations for chronicles and speaches of events characters

The Dev team has spent the last three days working with these unavoidable bug fixes following all the changes made in the client, in addition to the usual monitoring:

- No slowdown of the game server has been noticed
- Megacorp had to be temporarily closed because it was using too much CPU, causing timeouts when many simultaneous creations of accounts occured.

Bugs:

- Problem with the subscrition system, which bugs and doesn't run. That's why we decided to open free game server to everybody during a week, the time for the Dev team fix the issue.
So, for a week, the unsubscribed accounts can connect without having to resubscribe and accounts already subscribed have their subscription extended for 7 days.
- Error 62 (AVG antivirus blocking Ryzom). Kervala (Dev) fixed the error and has just updated the Steam client. A patch notes is being written, as other patches have been incorporated into this update.

Improvements and fixes:

- Improvement of the tool restoring the characters in order to shorten the working time facing the influx of restoration requests.
- Fix of Error 62 when connecting to the server (AVG antivirus blocking Ryzom). The Steam client update has just been made.
- Fix of missing textures when some boots were worn with a mage robe
- Other small fixes, added to this update of the Steam client.]]>

Comme ça, les joueurs qui installerait Ryzom via la « logithèque ubuntu » aurait un client à jour sans avoir recours à la ligne de commande pour ceux que ça effraye ou qui sont un peu feignasse.

Oui, mais à un moment, via la logithèque ubuntu, ca n'était pas simple de comprendre "l'achat gratuit" :(

Donc, je trouve plus simple de l'installer via les lignes de commandes, en fait :)]]>

Isn't this what megacorp.io is for?

Not really because Megacorp isn't universal, it's closed. You can't add your own XMPP adress, you don't have any notification on a your desktop client or on your smartphone. You don't have all the possibilities of a client like Pidgin or Conversations and you are forced to use a browser which is not really a good choice.
A browser with extensions and lots of tabs loaded can easily take 1Go (or much more) of ram when my Gajim is limited to 60Mo.
And why bother to make on a browser that has already been done elsewhere, Time is money you know. :)

Megacorp is just another closed client who has no interest outside of Ryzom. The idea was to expand Ryzom on the net using basic possibilities of XMPP.]]>

When you launch the game from Steam you get an option to start the Configuration tool. Please do so and click on Display, you should get an option to switch between OpenGL and Direct3D. Try to log in with either to see if your graphics improves.]]>

The Kirosta boss is not so hard since it's always easy to find a high level player on Silan to help with it, and people usually do.

But what about the people who can only speak 1 langauge (for example : Russian, Spanish, Swedisw...) ?

After a little bit of plays on Silan i have some issues with the interface. Ryzom had a lot of great ideas with the HUD but I think 3 points needs some improvements to bring a better accessibility.

First there is no scaling for the font or the items. If you pick a resolution, the resolution define the scale of the font (except chat).You know, my eyes are ok but i think the HUD is too small, so what about a player with eyes issues, think about it? In the same vein we can have a colorblind mode.

If we increase the scale of the UI, the background will be ugly because of the stretching of the original size of the image. So, what do you think about a support of the SVG format in the HUD? I think it's a good idea, everything can be scale without "pixelisation" so it will stay beautiful no matter what the resolution or the scale.

The idea of the NPC speaking in a bubble is good because it's better for the immersion but the spacing of the font in dialog bubbles could be increase to be more clear.

I want to say Ryzom is a great game and you already make a wonderful job on the interface tweaking keep up the good work and thanks for this game. :)

We have several OP Registry IG Apps already but this one is bit different.

H U G E shout out to Karu for taking this from an old spreadsheet file and making it into such a functional and attractive app.

As the creators of some previous apps have left game or RL jumped in and kidnapped them, the registry apps are oft not kept up to date. This tool reads the OP Owners and Guild Logos from the server and updates whenever a OP changes hands. If you are looking for a flower or an OP mat, this tool will tell you whom to contact.

Usage is simply, simply navigate to the Encyclopedia section of Bunny Tools and select OP Registry.

My client.log is full of errors like that:

The Hawker's guild would like to invite the homins of Aeden Aqueous and also the homins from the other nations to join us at the 95th birthday celebration of our respected boss Padger O'Toogh. After refusing to have his birthday celebrated for many years, he finally agreed to a party that will take place at the beach south of Fairhaven. Several tribes seem to have been added at the bottom of the list, without care to place them in the correct place. For TPs, the Fount pact is second-to-last in the list, although the list should be sorted alphabetically.

So .. yes please, implement an actual alphabetical sort (with the client's language!) for pacts and tribes.]]>

je ne crois pas qu'il soit nécessaire d'ajouter du travail aux développeurs, juste pour un info qui peut être stocké dans la partie biographie.
Même si lorsqu'on lit la bio, il ne reste plus beaucoup de doute quand elle existe :)
