Jola's Contest of Wits

Jola choose crate #2 this time and Dante issued his next challenge, "Your riddle is such..."

An entrepreneurial Capryini ventures off to sell his latest stock.

A Homin, A bag of q250 Experience Catalyzers, and a Vorax.

On his way to Pyr's Highmarket he finds that the Dragonspine
bridge is a little rickety.

He determines that he must carry his stock one by one so the
bridge doesn't break and send him to his doom.

Unfortunately he can't leave the Homin alone with the Cats because
he'll never see the Cats again.

And he can't leave the Vorax alone with the Homin because
he hadn't fed the Vorax yet.

How can the Capryini get all of his stock across without losing
any of it?

Jola thought she knew this one and answered almost immediately, "The answer is easy. He takes the cats and the vorax. And..." Then she realized her mistake, "Oh, wait... must he take them one by one?"

Dante answered, "THAT is what is stated in the riddle, please do pay attention."

Jola apologized, "Sorry, please give me a moment then."

The crowd was enthused with the spirit of competition by now. They could scarcely contain themselves and some were regularly whispering various encouragements and suggestions. Aesan did not protest, but some of Jola's supporters did:

Hechicera whispers, Shhh... it is not for us to talk about the answer to Jola's riddles."

Jola was still working out the logistics of the capryini's dilemma when Dante demanded, "Your answer Jola? We haven't got all day, remember?"

Katla enourages Dante to be patient

But Jola had worked it out and confidently proclaimed, "You take the...

Homin across first, leave him and go back.
Then take the across cats.
Leave them and take homin back to the vorax.
Leave the homin at the start and take the vorax to the cats.
>>>> Leave the vorax and lastly bring the homin over!"

Dante unhappily agreed, "That is correct, though I think the first answer you gave should have been your grade." He looked to Aesan for support, but Jola countered, "Sorry, but I never found Dragonspine bridge to be rickety. In fact it is quite stout and I have carried many a heavy backpack across. So naturally it took me a moment to comprehend the fantasy you concocted... in which only one thing could be moved at a time."

With this, Aesan seemed satisfied and ordered the contest to proceed, "Your next riddle for my competitor, Jola."

Katla cheers Jola on. Go Jola!
Meagon giggles at Jola.
Hellrond cheers Jola on. Go Jola!

Jola replied, "Thank you. I shall give you next riddle."

These four elements will be found,
within living masks where they are bound.

Dante patiently waited for more. But there was no more to come. Jola finally asked, "Come come... it is an easy one. A fast answer would be appreciated." Dante responded, "I did not realize THAT was it." Jola pressed her advantage again, "What more clues could you need?"

Unsettled, Dante thought briefly and decided on the old answer that fit so many riddles asking for four elements, "My answer is water, fire, earth and air.".

Jola pounced, "Alas my friend. You seem to know little of the noble Zoraï people. Masks of kinship are placed on the faces of young Zoraï by the Kami during an adoption ritual...

>>>> Bone, cartilage, flesh and sap are the elements used to construct these living masks.

For my part, I am a Matis, but I have spent much time among the Zoraï seeking answers to certain questions about... uh... my past."

It was a clean victory at last, which Aesan was compelled to acknowledge, "Score is Armageddons 1 and Cynics 0. Pick your next crate Jola."
