Jola's Contest of Wits

Jola answered, "I next choose crate #5."

Dante countered, "Then here is your riddle",

fir choir corn hehr

Everyone waited, breath held, for Dante to continue. But after a dozen seconds, it slowly dawned on the crowd that he was done.

After a lengthy wait, Jola responded, "You are done? These words would seem to be gibberish."

"Not to someone with an eye!" chortled Dante.

Jola muttered under her breath, "Fie!" It appeared to be an anagram. Not a proper riddle at all. She remembered back to days long past when she played anagrams with her brother Cino. And she always lost... always! Seconds ticked into minutes and no inspiration was forthcoming. Suddenly she spotted enough letters to form the word "horncher", but what would be the residual then? And it had to be a boss, right? Or did it?

Aesan sensed victory. He asked, "Do you give up Jola?"

Jola answered in a defiant voice, "Not yet."

More seconds ticked by.

Assan demanded, "I can only allow you a moment longer. I must press you for your answer now."

Jola could think of only one boss horncher, Hornkoo. But the letters did not fit! Her time exhausted, in the final seconds she saw there might be letters for the word of a tribe based in Liberty Lake. She blurted out the single word, "Corsairs." Almost instantly she knew it was a mistake. The anagram had no "s" or even "a". She was shamed by her poor showing.

Dante gleefully admonished, "That is incorrect. It was a simple word scramble." He kicked open the crate and out popped a...

>>>> Horrific Horncher. Jola had been on the right track all along!

The crowd groaned, but Dante's supporters were enthusiastic:

Gryshnozk cheers Dante on. Go Dante the Teaser!

Emboldered by another success, Aesan quickly demanded, "And now your second riddle, Jola. What is it?" But Jola was prepared. She could not be caught off guard so easily. She breezily responded,

Rallied by Jena's compassionate reachings,
this tribute to her greatest teachings.
Rooted in sacred place of meeting,
how high did rise this monumental greeting?

Dante was clearly perplexed. He fidgeted and worked his mouth several times but no sound issued forth. Jola decided to press her advantage, "I await your answer Dante. We have not all day."

The crowd was approving now that the boot was on the other foot:

Katla wonders if Dante is speechless

At last a frustrated Dante shouted, "My answer is, uh... it is the canopy!"

Jola chided, "And do you know the height of the canopy? The riddle asks how high the monument rises. But is it no matter, in any event you are wrong about the canopy."

A sullen Dante demanded, "And what is the answer?"

Jola replied, "In the year 2329, during the end of his reign, King Aniro the First constructed a monumental...

>>>> Ziggurat on the spot where the Matis people had first met the Karavan."

"According to ancient records this most glorious wonder was the highest structure ever constructed on Atys. It could be seen from a great distance, rising...

>>>> 30 stories from the forest floor."

Again the crowd roared their approval:

Rhonio bows to Jola.
Alassea cheers Jola on. Go Jola!
Sabreshadow thinks Jola is wise.
Katla loves Jola

Bitttymacod whispers, "I say that Jola is whupping the pants off Dante."

Aesan promptly quieted down the rowdy crowd by shouting, "Remember, it is STILL 0 points for all! Jola choose your next crate."
