Jola's Contest of Wits

Jola pondered a moment and then loudly announced, "I choose crate #3. Must I open it somehow?"

Bitttymacod whispered, "Stay aware Jola, Dante is known to be tricky."

Dante declared, "I will now give you my riddle."

A creaky fence.
A shiny stone.
Skin like flame.
Hair that flows.

"Who am I?", asked Dante.

Jola sighed. She had prepared for a contest of historical lore, not boss monster descriptions. And clearly this riddle referred to some known Atys scourge, probably one inhabiting the lightless Prime Roots. Jola stalled, hoping for inspiration to strike. She figured it must be some Marauder. Which one had a fence, stone, flaming skin and flowing hair? Her mind was a blank.

The minutes swiftly passed and an impatient Aesan demanded, "Come now, what is your answer to the riddle?"

Jola sighed and replied, "I confess that I do not know, but I will guess Lixie the Furious."

Dante shouted gleefully, "That is incorrect! Open the crate and see!"

Cautiously Jola pulled the tie holding up the sides of the crate. They fell with dump thump on the sand...

>>>> Cukoo the cute boss of Windy Gate emerged and scowled at the crowd.

Perhaps cowed by some mysteriously Marauder magics, it strangely did not attack. Jola at once noticed the skin and hair. She wished she had spent more time hunting in Prime Roots.

Jola acknowledged, "Well played Dante. Is it time for my first riddle then?"

Aesan replied, "Yes, Jola, give Dante your riddle."

Jola had indeed spent many hours pouring through the musty tomes in Yrkanis. She felt confident in her own riddles at least. With a gentle smile she asked a riddle that only the most serious students of lore would know:

A priceless treasure trove once hidden,
but out of kingdom it was not ridden.
Close at hand it always would be,
until released by monarch's locket key.

"And this treasure was?", she asked.

The crowd instantly whispered their approvals. Jola was prepared!

Katla is impressed by Jola and claims she is a hero.
Entendu cheers Jola on. Go Jola!
Alassea thinks Jola is wise.
Hechicera cheers Jola on. Go Jola!

But suddenly it was revealed that the Marauders had a few supporters in the crowd also:

Gryshnozk grumbles that Jola is silly.

Dante pondered a long time, clearly stumped. At last pressed for an answer, he hesitantly responded, "I guess the flower in the Royal Yrkanis Conservatory."

Now it was Jola's turn for a look of triumph, "I submit that you are..." she let the words hang in the air, "wrong!"

Dante grumpily asked, "And the correct answer?"

Jola promptly answered, "In 2506, knowing his life would soon be forfeit...

>>>> Bravichi Lenardi entrusted his priceless botanical research notes to his servant Sabio.

This servant was instructed is hide the materials in Yrkanis and only surrender them to one bearing the locket of the ancient Matis king Manalitch."

Hechicera shouted, "Go Jola! :)"

Aesan suddenly realized this contest might not go exactly as he had planned. Still 5 crates remained. There was yet time to win. Asean shouted confidently, "And the score is 0 to 0. Pick your next crate Jola."
