You are on an online game to interact with why would you want to hide from them when the ignore feature in game works just fine for that. If you are chatting, teaming, and running around you will be seen anyway.
I have no idea how this would be even implemeted with the current system we have. I don't want my friends list wiped and have all my old friends gone. Honestly I like going back and seeing the old names it brings me down memory lane. And it is even better when I see a light light up haven't seen in a while or a long time and from what I understand I would not be able to see that if they don't have me on their friends list for some reason.
Please don't implement this or I believe a lot of players will be very upset.
I don't want to go around saying, "Hey add me so I can see when you come online."
Honestly I didn't see a need to comment earlier because I thought it had no chance of being implemented but now I am concerned.
Personally, I often use the friends list to CHECK if people are online and then remove them. That would be completely useless. I also have a bunch of crafters on there and guild leaders.
The reason this idea came up in the first place is because some person feared being stalked by somebody in real life? Or at least that is what I understand from reading where it came from. Honestly, as stated in there he has more things to worry about than playing a game.
All the new patch did was notify you when people came on in your guild or friends list. How's that much different than checking your friends list every few mintues/seconds. I have a tendency to constantly open windows such as friends/guild/forums when things get remotely slow. I think having a hide feature completely destroys the purpose of the friends list and notifications in the first place.
Privacy issues can be dealt with through ignore/tickets/and CSR intervention. If it really is such a huge issue then maybe just find a different less extreme way to implement something.
