I think you always get more fame than you lose at other tribes. Apart from that the fame gain and lose for craft missions in the cities and villages is very minor.
Leave your poor packers where they are safe. Search for good missions and take notes to easier find them again.
Shield, buckler or jewels missions are very easy to do, because you only need two mats. The higher the required item level the better is usually the payment per material.
Make your bag as empty as possible, and then fill it with the required mats and tool and use teleports to travel.
