DISCUSSIONS AROUND ONGOING PROJECTS

Discussion around "Ryzom moves to Freemium model announcement!"

Adressing the points of Healinator (Hijati?) I first agree that the devs have done a good and valuable work.

As to the objections, I agree that it was a wrong move to destroy the possibility of lower level (non-subbed or all, I am not sure) to participate in digging teams as careplanners. This is not only a painful restriction hindering level training of beginners, it is also an architectural breach and inconsistency.

ad 1. Careplanning is a support activity no less than tanking, healing, or otherwise taking part in a team activity. So far, a lower level player, subbed or not, may take part in a plod, jug, jab, or kincher team, as a healer, range fighter etc. without the need that her equipment fits the region or the level of the opponent. It is evident that a small healer may heal less, and a small careplanner contribute less to ground stability or - if required - source health. There is no logic in barring small careplanners, or non subbed small careplanners - which would be even worse in the sense of pay to win.

ad 2. That dodge/parry abilities of formerly subbed players are not capped to 125 is a bug, hopefully. Otherwise PvP players would face a two class system of formerly subbed and f2p players of same levels in PvP, and to lesser extent, in PvE as well. If it is a bug, it should be fixed.

ad 3. It seems that Hijati has not been on for a long time. F2p was introduced in 2011 if I recall correctly, it replaced a 6 week trial period after which an account had to sub or was wiped. The restrictions such as 1 mount only (along with a radical price slashing for mounts and a bulk upgrade from 100 to 300) was introduced. The permacats for subbed players were introduced after the server merge.

ad 4. I do not fully understand that point. A crusade against alts would certainly destroy the game.

ad 5. I am also not sure about that point. There have been additions of content though not much, not really surprising given the limited developers' resources. There are ongoing initiatives for more and new content, such as RF, SE etc. I would oppose content for pay, or at least dislike it.

ad 6. UDP vs. TCP is hardly the problem, as isn't lack of jumping. New regions, team and multiteam challenges etc. would be a better idea than a "modernized" platform which would virtually mean complete rewrite of the code and seems illusionary to me.

ad 7. I am not aware of such alleged CSR abuse in the years I was playing Leanon/Atys. I do not rule out that it happened, but it is no actual and pressing problem at the moment. The CSR and event teams surely have to monitor possible misconduct and punish it if it happens. I don't know about CSR that scout bosses and never heard about.

ad 8. I agree. and the level dependent tools are a pain in the ass.
