Hmmm. I have Win7 and am using the 64 bit client and this does not match my experience, so I wonder what is the difference between our systems. It is very strange.
I presume that it only happens after you have rebooted your system for some reason (i.e went to sleep).
I would try deleting the client.log file, then rebooting and trying the startup that hangs. After you forcequit, copy the log file and send it to the support@ryzom.com address. That may have enough information to give them the idea of what is happening.
What I would suspect (without evidence) is that rebooting sets some flag (possibly to your graphics) and that flag causes the client to hang. Upon force closure, the flag is set to a new value and that allows the next iteration to load properly.
