My recommendation is to shun the hunting loot as much as possible when doing toolmaker. You may always give up and retake the mission and use dig mat instead. the hunting loot is a mess. You get the wanted one every five times you kill the right creature, and usually, have to kill 5 or 6 weaker creatures before the right 2 or 3 will respawn.
