[Zoraïs] Immortal memories

The red-haired Matis sat at his table, bowed over the latest transcriptions he had received. He studied them with intense attention. His left hand, which had at the beginning played a little melody on the wooden table frame, slowly turned that tune into a staccato of sounds - a curious mixture of nervousness, aggressivity, and dread, which came to a sudden halt when the Matis had finished his reading. He then, without losing much of a minute, grabbed his quill and a sheet of fresh paper, which in his haste he stained with ink. Ignoring this, the Matis began to write immediately.

Deles Silam, Honored Sages of the Witherings!

First, I would like to congratulate you on your peoples findings; that document you discovered and translated is a fascinanting window into the past of Atys.

Having heard that it was written by a Marung Horongi brought a few things together for me immediately, though.

We have all heard about the so-called "River of Time" and certainly have wondered where these swimming color-stains mentioned differ and where they are the same or something else completely. Did you, did I exist in every single of these stains? Where we similar in character there or someone else altogether?

The name Marung Horongi, to my knowledge, played no part in the color-spot I lived my past in. I knew, though, a Zorai named Muang Hoi-Gi, an evil, twisted homin who took pride in the fact that no-one had ever learned as much about Goo than he. I also knew a Nung Horongi, a very old Zorai, who was Muang's initial teacher until Muang was taken from him and given to the Inner Circles of wisdom. Muang and Nuang met again many years later, and although Muang had learned much, Nung still did teach him a few things - including some unspeakable in the Witherings, I guess. For this, Nung was banned from Zoran and from the homeland of your people even before the First Swarming. Nung himself told me about this, a very short time before he died of old age in the Lakelands, a prisoner to the Trykers for his part in the assassination of Still Wyler. Muang, of course, was the one who created the Goo ammunition, and Muang, with whom I did cross paths a couple of times, stayed a menace to all people on Atys over quite a period of time.

Now, from what we know, the same homins - even if they existed probably in every single of the color-spots before these mixed - do not exist twice on the Atys we now live in co-existence on. However, what about homins who died in one color-spot, but not in another? Can the legacy of every single one of them survive? Is it the same legacy melted into one, or are there various different legacies?

This all worries me, honored Sages, for one thing I know: our Muang Hoi-Gi, who probably is nobody else but the same and yet a different person than Marung Horongi, was very much alive at the time of the Second Swarming.

With my respect,

---
