As for the original question: reputation is earned by actions, and can be changed by actions. It's not a matter of flicking a switch.
yep, i didn't mean they were one and the same... but there is/was a 'saffron' hence my confusion.
i know one of them fairly well (as far as in game chats go) and he likes to play a game when he shows up where he pretends to be someone else.. the last time it took me a fair few minutes of deduction to work out it was him :)
