Had a talk with Ulukyn, the font is the same, just the rendering changed. I think it is looked into now. Check http://i49.tinypic.com/21jwsvr.gif for example before and after the patch.
Might be aliasing or alpha, something like this. But I agree the new font is somewhat harder to read. Noticed the change on windows client, can't say for other OS.
